Cumulus not updating to aprs2.net
Is anyone here using Cumulus to send weather data to the ham radio APRS network directly?
I tried using a couple of different servers but my weather station G4ILO-5 did not show up on aprs.fi.
I do have a pass code for APRS-IS and I run an APRS client which works correctly. In fact I am sending my weather station reports using the wxnow.txt file that Cumulus produces. But there is an issue with the APRS client software so I wanted to try sending the reports directly.

What server have you configured in Cumulus? I don't know much about APRS/CWOP, but I believe that if you have a password you should use rotate.aprs.net or rotate.aprs2.net. If that doesn't help, turn on the debug log, and the debug.log file will show the attempted uploads and any errors returned.

Re: Cumulus not updating to aprs2.net
Hi Steve and thanks for the reply. I tried euro.aprs2.net and then I tried direct to finland.aprs2.net which is where aprs.fi runs. I also tried the local APRS server provided by my APRS client. The weather object showed up locally but never appeared on the network.steve wrote:What server have you configured in Cumulus? I have written scripts to send objects to APRS-IS so I know that it should be working. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the format of the APRS message. That's why I asked if anyone else was doing this successfully, as if so that would point to an error in my configuration.
I'll turn on the debug log and try to see what's going wrong.
Thanks for the speedy reply and thanks for the great software.

Re: Cumulus not updating to aprs2.net
I don't think there's anything wrong with the format of the upload, because lots of people are uploading to APRS/CWOP with Cumulus, myself included. I'm not a radio amateur so don't have a passworded login, though, so I use cwop.aprs.net. Have you tried using rotate.aprs.net as suggested?

Actually, I don't think there ever is a response, success or failure, unless there was an error making the connection to the server. How long is it since your CWOP account was set up? I can't find you on the list of members: http://www.wxqa.com/members.txt

I don't have a CWOP account. I'm sending this to the amateur radio APRS network. That's what aprs2.net is.steve wrote:Actually, I don't think there ever is a response, success or failure, unless there was an error making the connection to the server. I think the problem is in the format you are sending. I tested it using one of my APRS test scripts.
You are sending: G4ILO-5>APRS,TCPXX*:@231230z....
If I remove the TCPXX* and the preceding comma, so I just send G4ILO-5>APRS:@231230z....
then the weather station shows up in aprs.fi.
The APRS documentation says that TCPXX is deprecated.

Re: Cumulus not updating to aprs2.net
This is the information I was given to use when I added CWOP support for Cumulus: http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/aprswxnet.html
It seems to be working OK for everyone else using that format. If the problem was a format error in the packet, wouldn't it show up here: http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/errors.cgi ?
As I said, I know very little about how this all works; I barely understand the CWOP side of it. I know nothing at all about how it relates to APRS. But there are other users here who are radio amateurs, so hopefully someone else will read this soon and be able to offer some input.

Re: Cumulus not updating to aprs2.net
I've just found this on the WUHU support list: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/wuhu ... sage/21955
It seems that "version 4 servers" now reject "TCPXX*", and "TCPIP*" has to be used. WUHU has made this change recently and everyone seems happy. How I was supposed to know this is anyone's guess, but now I do, so I'll make the same change.

Re: Cumulus not updating to aprs2.net
I have just had a reply back from Pete AE5PL who maintains the amateur APRS network software and he told me the same thing. So now we know why my weather data just disappeared. No doubt it is in the APRS protocol manual but there are over 100 pages of it!
I just tested the packet with TCPIP* and it does propagate on the APRS-IS network.
