Perhaps the firmware version isn't relevant after all. Perhaps it's the later versions of console/logger.

I have had to increase the sleep interval to 2000 from 1500 to get the update interval to about 3 seconds. At 1500 it was still updating close to every second.
At 2000 the CPU usage running Cumulus has dropped to 1.5% approx.. Whereas with no sleep interval it was using 3.8% which may be of interest to you.
