Hi, I am thinking about replacing my WM918 station with a new Vantage Pro and would like to know what to buy, I an looking at the 6152UK version but what about a data logger ? I am using an old laptop at the moment and it is on all of the time and seems to be working ok, I assume that a data logger will be able to update the laptop if it is only switched on for a short while.

Any suggestions ?

You need a data logger if you want to connect the weather station to your computer.
Without it you will loose this possibility.
When I bought mine I even bought a A 6332OV Anemometer Transmitter Kit so I had the possibility to separate the anemometer from the ISS.
Maybe something to think about.

Pete:

The data logger has a fairly limited memory so the more frequently it polls the console the more quickly it uses the memory.
I don't think you'll be satisfied with only occasionally switching the laptop on because you're likely to lose some data if you forget to switch it on some day.
If you have any plans of setting up a web site eventually, you will certainly not be happy with that arrangement.

Thanks for the reply's

Thinking that I also add the Davis logger to the list, also then it should be fully compatible with the set up.
I do upload the data every hour to a web site so I think that the pc will have to stay on.

There seems to be one or two good UK bargains to be had now so will probably hang on a month or two and see whats about then.

Pete,

A netbook is ideal for running a weather station. Once the screen is off it consumes very little power. My Samsung NC10 has been running continuously since May 2009 with the only downtime being for fortnightly system maintenance.

There are some available on Amazon... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-10-2-in ... B001GZC8K8
