Fine Offset 1081 (Maplin) USB reset issue

Hi All, Very new to this weather forecasting stuff so please bear with me.
I have just bought the Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/black-usb-touch ... 5?source=1) which I believe is a Fine Offset WH1081. My issue is that sometimes when I p[lug it into my PC the device resets and loses all the stored data. This does not happen all the time. I replaced the base unit but have the same issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

Well I got another of the stations as the offer from Maplin is so good and have one permanently connected to my study machine. So far all is good and data is consistent. Both of the base units read of the same sensors.

I think there quite a few of us who own two WH 1081 in order to have one working! At least we have some spares.....

As a new WS owner, I have been searching these forums trying to find the right place for my query. I have a WH1081 unit and my problem is that when I link the base station to my PC via the USB cable, there is nothing to indicate that data is being transferred and then after perhaps 30 seconds the base station makes a single beep and the date is reset to 01/01/10 and the time to 12:00. The software also locks up or gives an error message. I have given up on EasyWeather but the problem is still present using the much better Cumulus software.
As far as I can tell, the base station is accumulating data from the sensors outside but so far I am at a loss as to how to get it securely on to my PC.

It sounds like the same problem Ross had, but he didn't say whether he actually found a solution. It sounds like a problem with the console to me. Ross may turn up and offer advice, or perhaps one of our Fine Offset hardware experts may have a suggestion.
