New Weather Station

Post by tfavors »

Have a Davis Vue on the way to replace my ambientweather WS something anyway my question is will the same software just pick up the new station when I tell it the Davis Pro instead of the fine offset setting it's now on? Second question, what and where would the file be that the software will read. Thanks if anyone has any answers?

Yes, it will just carry on with the same data. You might have to adjust the rainfall figure (but it's unlikely). If you're getting a USB logger, you should read this: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#How_do ... Cumulus.3F
Second question, what and where would the file be that the software will read.
I don't understand the question. The Cumulus files are in the data folder, if that's what you mean.

I have the Davis Vantage Vue mounted outside and transmitting to the station. I did not get any software in my box and also did not see anything to connect to my computer. Will I have to purchase software and I think it's called a data logger to connect it to my computer. I still want to use Cumulus as well. Any suggestions as to what I need to get r purchase? This weather stuff get's expensive, lol Thanks, Terry

For Davis, in addition to the weather station package, i.e. Vue or VP2, you must also purchase the data logger package for an additional $100+ to connect the console to the computer, and that data logger package comes with the Davis Weatherlink software at no additional cost. The data logger comes in serial or USB version for computer connection, or alternately the WeatherlinkIP version which connects to a router and does not require a computer.

The Weatherlink software comes in handy for initial setup and then you can run it or run Cumulus, but not both together at the same time unless you also purchase Virtual Vantage Pro (VVP) which is another third-party software from softwx.com .

Here is a start of documenting the Davis purchase http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=18841.0

Hopefully this is helpful.

What do most users purchase? Sounds nice not to have the computer running all the time.

I ordered the serial or USB version for computer connection, I did not want to have to download data to my computer from the IP version. I wanting to continue using Cumulus software I'm finally use to it.

Station type to select is 'Vantage Pro2/Vue
For Settings the only items I have ticked are:
Use bearing zero when calm
Use data logger
Cumulus pressure trend names
VP 1-min barometer update
I don't have anything under the Easyweather.dat

Also make sure you have VP type set as 'Serial' even though you may have the USB type logger

Ah, the dreaded 32701. Your WL setup screen shot shows COM1 and is Weatherlink working that way? If WL with Com1 is not working then follow the instructions in WL for findng the correct COM Port. Make sure you connect the data logger to the computer in the correct sequence, and check that it plugs in properly. Then when WL works, stop it and run Cumulus - set Cumulus Station Settings to that working COM Port.

Your Cumulus screen shot shows your Serial Port COM Port as 0 but it must be the same as what is set in your working WL.

And you know that you can only run one program at the same time, either WL or Cumulus? Also make sure you are not running 2 instances of Cumulus (your Cumulus station settings has not selected 'Stop 2nd instance') so a 2nd start/running of Cumulus could have occured - check Task Manager.
