WH1080 Wind Direction Sensor RJ-11 plug wire colours

Post by hawg95 »

Hi

we have a camper van and are on holiday, i went to put up my WH1080 weather station only to find at some point over the winter the RJ-11 connector for the wind direction sensor has got caught, pulled out and ripped off leaving 4 wires

looking on the internet the local maplins doesn't have a N96FY and N96GY Replacement Wind Direction Sensor, but i can get a RJ-11 plug but i don't know what order the wires should be connected. could anyone tell me what order the 4 wires should be connected or post a pic please

any help would be great, i really miss my weather station
many thanks
Carolyn

If it's any help, the wires on mine go black-red-yellow-green. That's left to right, with the cable coming out of the bottom of the plug, and the plug contacts facing me. Hope that makes sense!

Here's a photo which hopefully clarifies (taken from the 'clip' side of the plug, so colours reversed from description above).

Hi Carolyn,

It's basically a "ribbon" cable, so you should only need to maintain the same sequence of wires within the plug. Also, as the middle two wires/pins are used for windspeed and the outer pair for wind direction it (probably) doesn't even matter which direction they run in the plug.

However, a pair of RJ11/12/45 crimping pliers can make assembly much easier/reliable, but don't buy those from Maplin, usually they can be found on ebay for £3 or so.

Cheers, Alan.

To confirm Alan's guess, the inner pair can be swapped and the outer pair can be swapped. So as long as you keep them in order, it doesn't matter if you put the connector on backwards.
