I just started my WMR88 and wind average and gust are equal everywhere except on Cumulus main display and index.htm?
I've selected WMR100 as station type and Oregon Scientific WMR88 station model.
Is this a known issue or have I done something that I shouldn't?

Re: Wind speed average and gust equal
You wouldn't normally expect them to be equal. So where is it that they are equal? Do you have Cumulus set to calculate the average, or the station? Are you aware that the figure that Cumulus shows as 'gust' is the peak value over the last 10 minutes, and the 'latest' value is the last value read that the station calls 'gust'?rogerthn wrote:I just started my WMR88 and wind average and gust are equal everywhere except on Cumulus main display and index.htm?

They are equla in e.g. Today's and Yesterday's highs and lowssteve wrote:So where is it that they are equal?
It was the station but now it's Cumulus and I'll check after work.steve wrote:Do you have Cumulus set to calculate the average, or the station?
No, I wasn't.steve wrote:Are you aware that the figure that Cumulus shows as 'gust' is the peak value over the last 10 minutes, and the 'latest' value is the last value read that the station calls 'gust'?

Re: Wind speed average and gust equal
As you had Cumulus set to use the average from the station, those must have been the gust and average speeds that were read from the station at some point. I don't have a WMR88 to test my code with, but I can't see any obvious bugs, and if there was a bug you would be seeing incorrect values all the time. I don't know what algorithm the station uses for gusts and averages.rogerthn wrote:They are equla in e.g. Today's and Yesterday's highs and lows
Note that as the station has no logger, then you need to run Cumulus all the time (you presumably already understand this). If you do stop Cumulus for any reason and you have Cumulus set to calculate the average, then it may not be able to calculate a very good average when it starts up as the only data it has available initially is the data it stored in the log file just before it closed down. So the amount of data available will depend on the logging interval in Cumulus, and the length of time that Cumulus was stopped.

Re: Wind speed average and gust equal
Issue resolved by telling Cumulus to calculate the average.
This wasn't needed for my old National Geographic 265 NE on Cumulus v1.8.5
Wind10MinAverage=0, see attachment Recent Extrems did have High Wind = High Gust

Re: Wind speed average and gust equal
I didn't really understand why you had to do that, so I did a bit of Googling, and it seems that the WMR88 doesn't supply separate gust and average speed values, so the 'gust' and 'average' that it supplies are always the same (as you saw). So getting Cumulus to calculate an average is a good approach.
