Sorry to hear it's driven you to distraction. These things can be annoying.

When you feel like it try starting W7 in safe mode and see if the problem is resolved. If it is take a screenshot of the processes window in Device Manager making sure you can see the entire list.

Then restart in normal mode and take another screenshot. Comparing the two should show the extra processes running one of which will be responsible.

It is frustrating but it is solvable. BTW, you are up-to-date with W7 updates aren't you?

So I presume that this is a browser only issue?
I generally try to start simple when these sort of upgrades take place.

So I would have first made sure everything was working OK with ie before adding another browser.
So now I would uninstall any browser other than ie and see if the problem persists.

When a 'new' OS install happens, normally there is a long drawn out process of adding all the patches (security and otherwise) to the OS - have these been done / completed?

ie10 is now turning up as a standard part of these upgrades - do you have ie10 installed? if so remove it and ensure you have ie8 or 9 running. To remove ie10;

1. Click on Start Menu>Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features
2. Click on on “View installed updates” on the left pane.
3. Once installed updates are displayed on right-pane, select “Windows Internet Explorer 10 “ update and click Uninstall button
4. Click Yes to proceed with the uninstall and further click on “restart now” button to uninstall IE10 and restore previous version of Internet Explorer you’re using earlier that could be IE9 you installed over IE8 or IE8 it self.

If this does not fix the problem, check for any updates for your graphics controller drivers.
If things are working OK for ie, if it is ie8, upgrade to ie9 and make sure that works OK and only then try your alternate favourite browser.

Hi All,

The winner is ..... the wireless network card utility program!

That was the only thing I could see that might be the issue. Couldn't see anything on the desktop but watching some processes flash up and down the list. When it was put back in that was the only hint I could see. There was nothing else running apart for the desktop processes. Using the Win 7 networking utility rather then the one supplied with the card seems to have solved the problem.

I can't say hand on heart "why" this was the problem it was just a process of elimination. The same card and software runs fine on another machine that has XP sp3 on it so there must be some issue with the way the software did the networking control. Looking for a response from somewhere.
