Oregon Scientific WMR200 data transfer

Post by Corniit »

Hello All,

I own Oregon Scientific WMR200 station and I have problems with transferring the data from the device to computer. As I have understood this device can store many days in it's memory and I could download the data to PC occasionally. I've tested with supplied Weather OS and Cumulus and both are unable to download from the memory. Data will be logged from the time that pc is connected to the station but no history is downloaded. Now that I tested this cumulus it will show that it is starting to download from the memory and data logging days are increased in station as it should when memory is deleting on device but once download is complete I only got time logged that the pc was connected to the device.
:bash: Download took like 2 hours or so. I don't get it what's wrong is that WMR200 faulty device or am I doing something wrong? I've also tried to contact Oregon Scientific but didn't receive any answer from them.

That device is behaving odd also on showing available logging days. On 1 minute logging intervals it shows 29days logging time when manual states it is only 19 days.
I had in mind to let the device log as long until memory is full and then download data to PC. But it seems this doesn't work.

Any help greatly appreciated

If you zip up the diags log and attach it, I can see what logger entries Cumulus is getting.

This won't work very well, because downloading the entire contents of the memory will take several hours, and in the case of Cumulus it won't log any 'live' data while the logger download is in progress, so there will be long gaps in the recorded data.

Cumulus only uses data from after the first time you run it. So if the station sends logger data from before that time, it's ignored.

Apart from that, it seems that your station is reluctant to send its logger data some of the time. The stations says that logger data is available, Cumulus asks it to send it, but instead it sends 'live' data. It may be that there isn't any logger data now, it's all been downloaded. Leave Cumulus not running for a while, then start it up and see if it gets any logger data.

I let the station collect data for awhile, connected Cumulus and first time it looks like it really worked and transferred logged data. Wohoo. Perhaps that station needs to get data downloaded more often or it will get messed up. If I only knew how many days will it successfully store until it get's messed up. Attached is the latest log.

Is the data transfer as slow for Davis devices also? I wonder what is the bottleneck for so slow transfer at least it's not the usb.

Thanks Steve for the great software! You surely deserve donation.

My Davis logger entries download at about 8 per second, including processing by Cumulus. Your WMR200 is going at about 4 per second. But the WMR200 has such a huge memory that a full download would take hours. The Davis logger has about 2500 entries, so a full download is about five minutes. The WMR200 has over 27000 entries, so a full download is about 2 hours (which is what you were seeing).

At one minute intervals your logger will hold about 19 days.
