Hi Mark,

We extended the cable from the UV and solar sensors to the ISS without a problem. My husband buried a PVC pipe in the ground and ran the cable through that to the ISS. I am using a second transmitter for the anemometer.

Thanks Kerry. I'm looking forward to getting this going. I have plonked the ISS on a slatted wooden garden table near my existing FO at the moment, I'm surprised they are reading with 0.1°C of each other most of the time! The wind readings from the Davis are generally lower than the FO despite being mounted right next to each other. I think I'll take a look at the Davis bearings and see if they have stiffened up any as it definitely takes a little more wind to get the Davis cups moving than the FO.

I went for the SHT75, which is the just the SHT15 packaged on a little board to avoid the hassle of surface mount components
I've just been looking at an old/dead Davis temp/hum sensor and I was wandering how that rather small IC was going to be soldered with my big fingers :) . The SHT75 makes much more sense to me. By any chance, do you have a close up pic of your SHT75 installed?

I don't have a picture, but I used a short length of ribbon cable to attach it to the cct board - note the pin order of the SHT7x is different from the SHT1x. I have attached a diagram of how both types of sensor are connected to the Davis cables...

Mark, thank you very much, just what I was after :) .

mcrossley wrote:Not sure yet Ray, I know the anemometer cable can be extended up to 240 ft, so I should be able to do something. I want the sensor up on the chimney stack this time, but finding a suitable place the ISS will be the problem where it is clear of heat sources, within cable reach, and accessible for maintenance.
An extended cable suitably protected is the cheapest option. I did think about that long and hard but eventually decided protecting it were too much of a hassle. So instead I opted for a second transmitter with its eye-watering price. :(

I'm considering buying a second anemometer so that when the first does pack up I can get the aerial fitter to switch them with minimal downtime. I used to go up on the roof without batting an eyelid but it's probably best avoided now. If I only had a gable-end house it would be a piece of cake.

According to that the year is a single digit, so it looks like this console was manufactured in 19th Oct 2006
Also, for completeness (it's obviously not relevant to older consoles):

As from about August (for VP2) or October (for Vue) last year (2012) the format of the console Mfg Code changed to reflect the new console hardware implementations. The second letter in the string has been moved up to position 2 in the string (1-based), so all console Mfg Codes now start eg 'AA' followed by nine (IIRC) digits the first six of which will represent the date code for VP2 stations or 'MA' for Vue consoles. We're now on to at least sub-revision C for the Vue units, so the latest Vue Mfg Codes start 'MC'.

Any console whose Mfg Code starts with two letters will be a green dot console and not compatible with older WL loggers (whatever the firmware revision AFAIK).

NB1 The wiki needs updating, which is planned for the next 2-3 months, but will also be moved to a new home within our main website.

NB2 (Probably stated elsewhere in other threads but let me include here for completeness) Do not try updating a console made before April 2006 (ie Mfg Code starts A603 or earlier) with rev 3.x firmware - it won't work!

Thanks for the update John, good to have a complete reference :)

...and it was a little stiff. The problem seemed to be muck in the brass bushing, I 'rinsed' it out with a very light hair trimmer oil  then dried it off, it now agrees very nicely with the FO gust speeds, the average speeds coming out slightly higher. They both spin about the same in very light wind now. So it looks like I'm good to go once I figure out where the heck I can put the ISS/rain gauge that is within reasonable cable reach of the chimney - and the wife will agree to!
