Weather Station Upgrade

I am replacing my Fine Offset weather station with a Davis Vantage Vue system with the USB data logger. I have about 2-years of data on Cumulus and would like to change the configuration to the Vantage Pro2/Vue. Can this be done and simply continue the data logging with the new system and maintain historical data? I am also a Weather Underground station and will this just continue sending data?

Thanks in advance,
Jerry

The only issue you're likely to see when switching to a different weather station is that the rainfall figure for the day might be wrong and need a little tidying up. But you can just carry on with your existing settings and data.

Steve,

The discussions caution about using the Weatherlink setup then trying to use Cumulus. I have setup the new weather station and I am logging to the console. I have not installed any Davis software or connected to my computer. If I connect the USB plug to my computer and run the Cumulus setup for the Vantage vue will it start logging? Do I need to install the Weatherlink software?

Thanks for all your help,
Jerry

You need to install the Virtual Serial Port drivers. If you want to change the station's logger interval (and you probably do if the default is still 30 minutes) then you will need to install Weatherlink (there are other ways, but using Weatherlink is probably the easiest).

There are no problems with installing and running Weatherlink as long as you heed the warning about not selecting USB mode.

What firmware version does your console have?

Do I just download these drivers from the web?

You can do - see the link in the FAQ. But the drivers may require something from the Weatherlink installation anyway.

There are known issues with that version (3.00) of the firmware and the Davis DLL which Cumulus uses - see the long thread about this in the Davis section of the forum ("Data input appears to have stopped") so you may find that you hit that problem (data input stops for over a minute from time to time). Davis have issued a new version of the firmware for Vantage Pro2 stations (3.12) but my understanding is that firmware does not work with the Vue and no update for the Vue has yet been released.

Steve,

I did the Davis software installation and serial port setup with the USB connection plugged into the computer and console, it set it up as com port 4. I did the Cumulus configuration as serial port com4 and it appears as both Cumulus and Weatherlink work fine. I will let you know if Cumulus gives and errors. Thanks again.
