Fine Offset - WH1080 - Can I get a replacement sensor unit

Hello there

This is my first posting on this forum so please go gently with me!

I have a Fine Offset WH1080 unit which has given me several years of good operation.

Just recently the readout unit stopped displaying the information from the external unit. I have replaced the batteries, but it stil does not work. The LED on the external unit stays on rather than flashing.

I have emailed Fine Offset directly and they tell me that the sensor unit (I assume this means the part of the external unit that I put the batteries in) must therefore be defective, and I need to get a new one.

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement for just that part, or even just for the external unit as a whole? The display unit works fine.

Thanks for all and any help

Kind regards

Ben

I believe Maplins is selling spare parts for Fine Offset weather stations.

However, I think you need to be careful and check your current specs and the new ones, as there are two types of Fine Offset which transmit at different frequencies. I think the older ones transmit at 433.92Mhz and the newer ones at a higher frequency.

Make sure you get one that matches your current console. Or I suppose buy a whole new system as Maplins have them on offer for £59.99, but the newer ones seem to be the ones that are prone to the USB lockup.

Thanks very much indeed for your reply.

I am astonished to say that the sensor has suddenly started working. It has been in the house for the last two weeks or so - not working - and I have taken the batteries in and out every so often - and suddenly today the external temperature, pressure and wind speed etc started working.

I have no idea why but it's good news I guess!

Sounds to me like it might have got moisture in it and it finally dried out after being inside for a while.

I think I would take a look at all the contacts (battery and unit RJ11 contacts) and even take a look at the PCB to see if there in any obvious oxidation or water tracks and then seal it all up with sealant and liberal spray of WD40 over the contacts and put it back outside, and see what happens.
