[SOLVED] If Twitter stop updating (degree symbol)

Running Cumulus 1.9.3 1059
Twitter was not updating and in diags log I had the error
Code: Select all
Twitter update error: HTTP/1.0 400 Bad Request
The error is caused by degree symbol in my twitter.txt file
Code: Select all
Temp.: <#temp>° C. Umid.: <#hum>%. Vento: <#wspeed> <#windunit>, dir.: <#wdir>/<#avgbearing>°, <#beaudesc>. Press.: <#press> <#pressunit>, <#presstrend>. Pioggia odierna: <#rfall> <#rainunit>.
The workaround is to include the text between "", now my twitter.txt file is like:
Code: Select all
"Temp.: <#temp>° C. Umid.: <#hum>%. Vento: <#wspeed> <#windunit>, dir.: <#wdir>/<#avgbearing>°, <#beaudesc>. Press.: <#press> <#pressunit>, <#presstrend>. Pioggia odierna: <#rfall> <#rainunit>".
Twitter is now updating with the degree symbol correctly displayed

Hi CrashBonesS,
Even though you have sorted the issue, are you aware that your tweets now have "" around them?
For example:
"Temp.: 0.2° C. Umid.: 88%. Vento: 15.3 km/h, dir.: ONO/295°, Brezza tesa. Press.: 1001.7 hPa, In lento calo. Pioggia odierna: 1.8 mm".
Hopefully, this isn't an issue that appears to you, but it would to me.
Thanks,
William

I know that could be an issue, but the choice are 2
1)Having tweets with ""
2)removing degree symbol from tweets

I think the quotes are a red herring, personally. I can't see how they can make any difference.

Yes, I actually agree with Steve! I think removing degree symbol from tweets is worse than having tweets with "" around them!

I just did a test tweet from Cumulus with a degree symbol:
https://twitter.com/mcrossley
twitter.txt = Test, please ignore <#temp>%B0 C
Special characters have to be urlencoded as I understand it.

Cumulus does the URL encoding as required. But if putting %B0 in the twitter.txt file works, that'll do for me.

Weird, I wonder why that worked then!

The whole thing is a mystery to me. The code in Cumulus is very complicated, stuff has to be encoded and then re-encoded, and the fact that Twitter keep changing things and not telling anyone doesn't help.

I tried to replace ° with %B0 but it did not work in my tweet

When there were problems with Twitter and degree symbols previously, I believe I suspected that it was to do with the settings on the users PC in some way. Note that degree symbols in the built-in standard tweet appear to work OK. Twitter is a pain, basically.
