Dates and bars do not line up and match

Post by rstefani »

I recently updated Cumulus from 1.9.2 to 1.9.3(1059) but what I have noticed since then on my "daily rain" and "TempMax/Min/Ave" graphs is that the dates and the bars no longer line up. Is there any way to correct this problem?

The scales are drawn automatically by the charting component. For some reason it's chosen a not very sensible grid spacing for you, so the tick marks don't correspond to full days. What do have for the 'Daily chart period' in the display settings? Does restarting Cumulus fix it?

I think perhaps the chart component is fitting in more vertical grid lines simply because it can, because of your short date format - m/dd/yy. My date format is longer - dd/mm/yyyy, so it can't fit as many in. I'm not aware of having changed anything in this area in 1.9.3, but the chart component itself will be newer. Out of interest, why do you use a US date format?

I changed my date format to dd/mm/yy and got the same problem. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything I can do about it, sorry. The only thing I can suggest is that you increase the number of days on the graph, to force it to show fewer labels. You'll probably need to go to around 40 days. Note that you need to restart Cumulus for it to take effect.

I think the only thing that I could do would be to remove the tick marks - which as far as I can tell are the only problem; the dates and grid lines do actually match.

Thanks for your input Steve! I forgot to mention that I am now using Windows 7 Home Premium on a new laptop. I set the region in "Region and Language" (control panel) to Canada and that's probably what caused the problem. I went back to my previous laptop(Win XP) and noticed that the region I set there was English U.S. So I changed the setting on my new laptop from English (Canada) to English (US) and voila, problem solved! I have no idea why picking Canada would cause this problem but at least now it's fixed!

Rob

PS - As per your instructions in the readme file I did install Cumulus into the root (C:) directory and I did change the region from US to Canada in Win7 prior to installing Cumulus. Now it's back to US English and working fine.

It's because of the length of the date. You now have m/dd/yyyy, which is longer than the m/dd/yy you had previously, and long enough to make the chart software space the grid lines out to three days instead of two, so the small tick marks now correspond to a day.
