I have just changed the original transmitter batteries after 14 months, not completely gone but TX coming up when temp dropped below freezing. I'm now using iGo rechargeable alkaline rated 2000mAh same as the originals.

Standard (non-rechargeable) Alkalines should have lasted longer than that (at least they normally do in the 108x non-solar versions) !

IMHO better to just shove in any ordinary Alkalines (which are virtually identical chemistry), or non-rechargeable Lithium AAs if very low temperatures (< - 20 Celcius) are expected.

But keep us informed if the replacements do any better than the originals.

Possibly, but probably not for long. Rechargeable Alkalines don't charge very well once they've been taken into "deep discharge" (if ever).
