Extending Anemometer Cable

I've been trawling around trying to find something best suited to my need and there have been some helpful posts. However, I've not been confident enough to go and buy the cable knowing I'm getting the right stuff.
My Weather station is the one from Maplins that comes with the WH1081 unit so ideally I need someone to reply who has this model and has extended the cable!!
I really need to put the wind tools on the roof and I know I don't need anymore than 20 metres of cable. Looking at the cable that links up to the transmitter (Temp/humid sensor) its fairly thin, not like ethernet cable, and looks very similar to the phone cable coming into my house! The plug is a small, probably RJ11 plug and I can see 4 gold connectors.
I've seen some people say Cat5e etc can be used but the ethernet plug is too big. I've seen some say they used ADSL cable and then I was confused by one "expert" saying you need to be sure that the wired pairs match up with the pairs of existing connections....
Oh, and just to add to the confusion I've heard some say that the signal will be significantly reduced over 20 metres and may give a wrong reading....
SO, please someone put me out of my misery, hit me with a positive answer of what cable I need!!! Pictures maybe included!!
