Hi Alan,

Thanks for the extra information. Looking back over my last three week's readings, it shows maximum wind speeds of 10mph and gust of 16mph.

A decent reed switch has a switching time less than 1ms closing, much less than that when opening (allowing for contact bounce), but with a strong magnetic field to operate it. Possibly the magnetic field is not adequate - magnet too weak to cause operation at speed and the fo reed being not up to snuff. I'm sort of going to give up for the time being, until I decide, if ever, to really try and sort it out.

I can tell if it's windier today, compared to yesterday, I suppose, but only if it was not very windy yesterday...
