Too many questions there

One thing though, only one person can use a single logon at a time. If you missues wants to use the PC at the same time, she will need another logon.

Err.. she does, that was the whole point. She gets a warning message when attempting to, saying that my session will be disconnected. I guess I just want confirmation that is as innocuous as "lock" and won't cause a breakdown of USB or Cumulus.
Or are you suggesting that I can't remote connect from laptop to my desktop session while she is using another session on the desktop?

That is, I think, precisely what is happening here.

Remote Desktop Connection will only allow one person to be logged in to the target Desktop "by design", the other will be warned and disconnected so that their login is running in background and can be reconnected to once the Remote Desktop Connection is disconnected.

If I want to check Cumulus when I'm away from my main computer, I use my Android phone which is usually in my pocket and WIFI connected when I'm at home. I'm not sure if there are apps available for the other smartphone platforms, or you may not be a smartphone user, but this is another alternative.
VNC does allow both a remote user and a local user to enter data and see the screen at the same time - at least it does in XP with the old version of VNC that I have.

Well, it is interesting.
10 secs to screen telling me someone is already logged on and will have to be disconnected, another 40 secs before I get the blank fullscreen display and then a further four minutes, at least, before the desktop image is displayed (well, charms first).
ok, perhaps I can live with that but... the Cumulus status (I am on rapid fire with wunderground) is flashing every second, implying data is being sent but the red error light is flashing too, implying there is a (data transmission?) error. However, if I alt-tab to a browser session where the rapidfire data is being displayed it is flashing refreshing/updated and there is movement in the indicators, implying that there is no problem with the data transmission.
So, I disconnected the session and returned to the desktop system (of course, I hadn't checked Cumulus on there before I tried linking to it) and the red error light is flashing on there. However, the debug logs show everything is ok (code 200 data received ok). And, again, wunderground is being updated ok (as are the other two sites that I send to on a per minute basis).
So, now a) I don't know why the error light is flashing, b) whether it was occurring on Cumulus prior to linking to it with the other system and c) how to stop it flashing, apart from restarting Cumulus.
As an aside, my partner, having been booted from the desktop system so I can try this out, is using her Nexus 7 where she is accessing wunderground through an Android Chrome browser and there doesn't appear to be any way of accessing wunderground.com (for example, to log on to account and look at weather stations, webcams, etc.) as it seems to divert to i.wund.com regardless of what she tries. Not sure if this is a caching problem or what. Any ideas?

Click on the error light to see what the error is.
The 'status' light that flashes once a second - is that the green 'new record' light? If so, it's not what you think it is. It tells you that a record has been broken.

ok, sorry, I had forgotten that you could click on the light (as opposed to the text "Error")...
It says 30/01/2013 15:06:06 : Data input appears to have stopped - check your station and connections
lol, it must have been a one off, perhaps associated with the linking from the other system.
Now it has been cleared, no flashing (apart from green New Record), and it was a one off because the data has been updated all this time.
Sorry, OMS (old man syndrome).
oh, and to get over the annoying redirection to i.wund.com I can enter wunderground.com/login.asp
