It appears on my iPad 5th generation using Safari. Your browser must have settings preventing you from seeing it.
Looking at my HostPresto site it includes this… “ Free LetsEncrypt SSL. All domains hosted on our service enjoy free and automatic SSL from LetsEncrypt. Certificates are installed and renewed automatically.”
If that is what’s required it would appear to be included in my package. I’ll contact them and see what is required to make it https.

Hi Ray,
You like me are all good. Your banner appears fine
I would not waste my time or pennies re https for a weather banner
I also do not have https but have no trouble displaying my banner.
I bet you can see mine ok
If any of you can not see any of the banners then check your browser settings.
I am using firefox on my main PC and all is well
Cheers

I don't think that is always the case, it depends on setting in the browser.
Especially Chrome has a problem displaying mixed modes (no http in https site).
Although there are settings in browsers where you can disable this behaviour (so it starts accepting http in secure pages) it is not advised.
@Ray: really, you do not have to be a bank to go for https. I advise you do some reading. Everybody should use https and it should not be a discussion here.

Hi Jenny, yes, I can see yours and mine plus Mapantz. I suspect some browsers like Chrome are extra sensitive to http sites.
What I cannot fathom out is how to refresh the banner info. On my windows laptop I can’t hit CTRL+F5 and a reload is performed. But I don’t have a way of doing that on iOS on my iPad. I can choose the reload icon in the address bar but it doesn’t refresh the banner info. It currently shows June 8 info.
I am considering the package offered by my hosting company that is 36GBP per annum compared to the 27GBP I pay now. Not purely for the banner alone but it would allow me to display it in my signature on several forums I visit. They block http links. That in turn would increase my site’s visitor count.
As always your support is appreciated.

I can't see your banner Jenny. However, I'm not changing my security settings for the sake of it.

I got my own banner to display again for me in Edge on this forum by following Mark's suggestion here viewtopic.php?p=160883#p160883.
Most banners, 13, are displaying for me on the Top Sites page https://cumulussites.net/ but 4 are not yet; mine, Ray, Jenny, and Hans.
p.s. the banner for Ray, Jenny and Hans do display for me here on the forum site.
Enjoy,
Paul

Slightly different comment about images, Jenny I maybe wrong but my recollection was that the old web site place holder image on an individual web site said "Cumulus Top Weather Sites" rather than "Aardvark Topsites"?
And as to the cost of "https", most hosting companies provide a https link free of charge nowadays, mine certainly does.

David, who is your hosting company and how much do you pay per annum? Just so I can compare to mine.

Ray I am paying £42 per year with TSOhost, which gets 15GB of disk space, 13 GB of MySQL space, 25 email accounts and unlimited bandwidth, plus a free HTTPS and Cpanel access to lots of addons.

I wouldnt either Mapantz, there is nothing to see thereI can't see your banner Jenny. However, I'm not changing my security settings for the sake of it.
Ok so from a bit of research, it depends on the browser you use and the security settings as stated above.
Since I also am not a bank I doubt anyone is trying to 'break in'. Firefox is set on a basic setting and all shows fine for me.
So I guess the choice is yours
Nothing is broke for me still using http. So nothing to fix.
However the next php upgrade may be a different story as each upgrade usually is
Take me back to the early days. Life was so much easier on the internet and much less stressful
Buttons/Default Banners
These are in the making as already stated. It was unfortunate our server losing everything including their backup drives. It has meant having to re make all images.
Cheers now
Jenny

Re: **NEW** Cumulus Weather Topsites 2013 - Please Join.
This is my last post here about https versus http.
I googled "is https important?" This was the most imformative search result. "The answer is, it depends. If you are just browsing the web, looking at cat memes and dreaming about that $200 cable knit sweater, HTTP is fine. However, if you're logging into your bank or entering credit card information in a payment page, it's imperative that URL is HTTPS. Otherwise, your sensitive data is at risk."
Given my site is read only with only menu options being available to the user to view diffeent weather data I see absolutely no need for added security. If I had a button to allow users to pay me it would be a different situation.
I won't be changing until such time as I'm forced to.
