Recover/Refresh/Reload Last Few Days of Data from Station

Post by Buford T. Justice »

I had a serious error that caused the secondary hard drive I have Cumulus installed on to go bad. I was able to restore a backup, but the last 2 days of weather data are gone. I need to know what I can do to Cumulus to make it read and overwrite the data missing or in error in Cumulus with the data still on the Fine Offset display's memory. I don't want to make the problem worse by guessing.

Surely if you copy all the files in one of the data sets in the Cumulus Backup folder from before the crash and paste them into the Data folder, Cumulus when started will load the missing data from that point to the current time from the memory in the console, thus restoring all your data?

I thought it would do the same thing as well, but it is not. There is a gap in dayfile.txt, no data for yesterday, etc. The last reading was from the 14th. If I start Cumulus, it just starts logging today. I do have the the option set to use the logger.

I fixed it. Either dayfile.txt or today.ini file was corrupt. I made copies of both. Restored older copies of them. Opened Cumulus which read all the memory from the FO display. I let it process then closed Cumulus. I added what was missing from both files from the copies I made. The only error i had was a daily rain fall total of 797 inches which I deleted by editing the data files with Notepad.

All is well now :)

Glad you got it all back. Was it perhaps that the backup you used was corrupt and that an earlier backup might have been valid so that Cumulus could then download the data since that earlier backup? But there was likely no way for you to know beforehand that the backup was corrupt.

I am still not exactly sure what happened. The hard drive may have been to blame. I was just happy to have backups to revert to. COMODO BackUp works pretty well.
