Cumulus installation for website testing

Post by ba1963 »

Hi all,
I have a spare PC not connected to my Offset Weather Station console (connected to another PC running smoothly and configured to upload data to my "real" weather website) where I have installed a Cumulus instance (1.93 build 1058) and a XAMPP package so that I can run a local weather website for testing purpose.
If I run cumulus without any console connected and I open cumulus webpages obviously no "real" values are displayed and for this lack some controls (for example Steel Series Gauges) can't be shown. My question is : How can I populate data on cumulus webpages without connecting the PC to the console? Is it possible or I have absolutely needs to connect the Weather Station Console to the PC?

Thank you

You could poke some data into Cumulus using a constructed easyweather.dat file. Jim has the format on his site, here: http://www.jim-easterbrook.me.uk/weather/ew/ and the fields which Cumulus actually uses are shown in a post in this thread: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4344

Cumulus just keeps reading the last line of the file, and looks for the date/time to change.

Andrea, I have a Web development computer (with XAMPP) running both Cumulus and Weather Display ... and the Vantage Pro2 console is not even connected to the Web development computer...

The setup I have been using:
  • - on the main computer, the one that has the Vantage Pro2 connected to, I use SoftWx VirtulVP to capture the data from the console;
    - again, on the main computer, Cumulus gets it data from VirtulVP;
    - on Web development computer, I have another copy of VirtulVP - this second copy of VirtulVP gets its data from the first copy of VirtualVP through one of its virtual TCP/IP ports (through the local network);
    - on Web development computer, both Cumulus and Weather Display are getting their data from the second copy of VirtulVP.
I have used this setup for about three years without problem.

Hi Ray,
Thank you for you suggestion but if I understood correctly, the VirtulVP software is compatible only with VP Console... :-(
When I'll buy a VP2 then I'll follow your configuration... :-)

Thnx,
