Post by William Grimsley »

Hi guys,

I went to open a attached Notepad file with the extension ".zip.txt" at first I thought it looked ok but then this happened.

Here is what came up in the file:

Why has this happened?

That's a zip file. Remove the .txt extension.

Hi Steve,

How do I do that exactly? I tried save as all files with just .zip but it came up as .zip.txt still...

Then, I got this...
Windows cannot open the folder. The Compressed (zipped) Folder 'C:\Users\William\Desktop\WU-mods.zip' is invalid.

In Windows Explorer, click on the file name and change it. Hopefully you haven't still got 'hide known file extensions' set; if you have, turn it off.

Hi Steve,

It's not a folder. It's a file!

Plus, where do I change the 'ignore file name extensions' bit?

I know it's a file. When did I say it was a folder?

Hi Steve,

Ok, I've done that. Now, the same thing has occured:
Windows cannot open the folder. The Compressed (zipped) Folder 'C:\Users\William\Desktop\WU-mods.zip' is invalid.
Thanks for your time and help,

Will

If you've been doing things with it with software that thinks it's a text file, then it's not surprising that it's now invalid.
