Gauges don't display correctly in Chrome
The dynamic gauges at the bottom of my weather page (http://www.smallfieldcomms.plus.com/Sma ... gauges.htm) as displayed by Chrome version 23.0.1271.97 m are displayed with a black rectangular box background which hides the text.
They seem to be all right in IE, Firefox, Opera and Pale Moon, and used to be so with Chrome. I don't know which update of Chrome started to misbehave.
Anybody have any idea what's going on please?
Richard.

Those gauges use Flash (they also display OK for me in Chrome 23.0.1271.97 m). AIUI, Flash is built in to Chrome, otherwise I would suggest reinstalling the plugin.

An opinion should be the result of a thought process, not a substitution.

Re: Gauges don't display correctly in Chrome
Thanks for all the replies. My Chrome has now updated itself to version 24.0.1312.56 m and it is still displaying the gauges with a black background.
I have checked in Chrome:plugins and the Adobe Flash Player is still showing as enabled. I tried disabling it and the gauges didn't appear at all. When I re-enabled it, they appeared OK for a few seconds then the black background appeared.
I have posted a brief 5 second video showing what happens when I refresh the page ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/3fq3ln6j70cm3 ... action.wmv ).

Do you get the same when you look at other gauges pages, mine, for example: http://sanday.org.uk/weather/gauges.htm

Yes I do Steve. Identical action as far as I can see.

Re: Gauges don't display correctly in Chrome
I Googled the symptoms (black background on transparent Flash applications in Chrome) and found a number of hits. It seems that this problem has been around for a while. I've no idea why it currently seems to be affecting you and not others.

Does flash work on other sites? This one has a small test animation: http://www.ultrasounds.com/
If not can you right click where the gauges should be, click 'settings', click the monitor, and try disabling "hardware acceleration" - worth a shot.

Re: Gauges don't display correctly in Chrome
Hi Mark,
I clicked your test link and saw the word Ultrasounds fine, with colour running through the letters, so I'm guessing that is what one is supposed to see.
Looking on the web at other people who are having this problem, it seems to be something that affects transparent backgrounds only.
As it works on other browsers, it is likely to be a Chrome 'feature'!
Richard.

Hi Mark,
I tried disabling the hardware acceleration, but unfortunately it didn't fix the 'feature'.

Re: Gauges don't display correctly in Chrome
OK, worth a shot, remember to enable it again. I've had problems with Flash and transparent backgrounds before, but with the IE engine that was used by the old desktop gadgets in Windows, they rendered as purple though!

Re: Gauges don't display correctly in Chrome
OK, I've found a work-around. By selecting the Chrome IE plugin on my 'gauges' page, all displays normally.
Thanks for everybody's ideas.
