Cumulus Support

I restored my computer to factory settings. Backed everything up including dragging the entire Cumulus folder into my backup drive.

Everything works great except when I went to check the NOAA monthly reports all months were blank. I then went into the folder and noticed there werent any Dayfile.tx folder.... In fact, none of the backups for the last year have it.

Am I missing something or did I forget to do something? Thanks

Dayfile.txt is a file, not a folder. It's in the data folder.

Thats what I'm baffled about. All I did was transfer the entire Cumulus folder and there are no dayfile.txt anywhere. Not in the Data folder, not in the backup folders.

Would it be anywhere else or is there a way to create it? All the month logs are there and records... just the dayfile is gone.

Did you originally install Cumulus into the Program Files folder?

Hi mcrossley. Yes. I never touched the folder and I know 100% it was in there cause I use the noaa monthly info a lot. Maybe it creates one automatically when the day is over? But that doesn't explain why any of the backups don't have the txt file.Thanks for replying.

Get this... So this morning I opened up Cumulus, was hoping the day files would suddenly appear. They didnt. So I thought hard and remembered I only transfered the Data and backup file folders from the backup harddrive.

So I decided to changed the name of the downloaded Cumulus folder in the C drive and then transferred "the entire" Cumulus folder from the backup.... WALAH!! Day info appears from the past

Apparently there's something else reading the day files not in the data or backup folders.

Sorry, I can't follow any of that, and I don't know what the acronym "WALAH" means. If you're saying it's all working again, then that's fine

If dayfile.txt isn't in the data folder (and you appear to be using C:\Cumulus now, so the Windows 'Virtual Store' annoyance isn't relevant), then I have no idea where it could be. There's nowhere else it could be and still be available to Cumulus. Perhaps it is there but you have file extensions hidden, so you don't recognise it? Could you show a screen shot of the contents of your data folder?

Thanks for the reply. You're probably right that its hidden for some reason. But I could of swore I seen the file everytime I checked out the folder.

You do have 'hide known file extensions' set (which as an aside you would do well to unset), but it's definitely not showing up. If it really is there, then perhaps it has the 'hidden' attribute set somehow. If you go into 'This Year' (for example) in Cumulus and try to produce a report for 2012, do you get sensible data displayed?

Yup, everything displays beautifully. When I get back I will have to look into unsetting hidden extensions. This is a first for me. Come to think about it... When I would get false rain readings I would simply go into the day file and fix... So apparently it was there for me to click! Just 3 days ago I was in it. Something strange going on for sure.

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:

Uncheck: hide file extensions
Check off "show hidden files, folders and drives

See if file is there in that folder you were looking in, right click it, uncheck hidden

So dayfile.txt somehow did have the 'hidden' attribute set? And if so, presumably you have unset it now?
