Bug Report

Hi there,
I've been having problems with my computer over the past couple of weeks and I haven't really had time to devote to Cumulus. My Watson W8681 display is in front of me which has been an adequate enough weather display for a while.
Then, the other day, I took my computer in to the shop for a debugging session.....another way of donating £60 to an (un)worthy cause :(
Once home I checked things over and tried tro start up my Cumulus display.
The "Downloading Data" screen popped up - and stayed there for half an hour.
Eventually I decided it wasn't working and so I exited the program; upon which I received the error message..."An error occurred in Cumulus."
So I saved the Bug Report and here it is.

The bug report just seems to indicate some sort of USB problem. Could you let me have the file from the diags folder for that run, please?

Hi Steve - sorry to be disturbing your Easter weekend. :(

I've attached two files - one which was produced just before and one from just after the error report.
Hope they're the right ones.....

Interesting that you mention a USB problem....one of my USB ports is apparently defective....wish I knew which one, but being no expert I can only find out by trial and error.

It's having to download a lot of data (9 days worth) so it will take a long time, but no more than a few minutes. The second trace shows the device disconnecting from the USB after a few minutes, and Cumulus has no recovery from this, even if it was indeed recoverable, so it will sit there forever after that.

The latest beta (see announcements) has an option to restart Cumulus when it gets the 'disconnect' condition, so it would at least keep trying, but that would still require the device to stay connected for long enough to download the data. If you read some of the threads in the Fine Offset section you'll see that a few other people have problems with USB disconnects, and the solution seems to be a hardware one (e.g. new USB cable).

Thanks for that Steve - much appreciated.

It looks as if I'm going to be busy for a while then.
I'll do my best to check out everything at this end and then I'll report back....eventually!

I presume that if all else fails then I can simply wipe my records of all Cumulus activity (including the program files) and then start again from scratch?
