Weather Diary

Post by bnwrx »

2 questions, Can weather diary be programmed to keep a cumulative total for snow? Also can it be kept in inches rather than cm?

Thanks

The diary is a bit limited, I added it and never got around to doing much with it, and similarly with snow in general. If you look at the Snow Index on the View menu, you get a cumulative total there - it's basically the total of all the daily depths over the winter. The snow depth in the diary is really unitless, the best I can offer at the moment is that you pretend that it says "in" instead of "cm", but it doesn't allow fractions to be entered.

I've looked into this some more, and it would be hard to change the snow to accept fractions (because the log xml schema is set up to only allow integers), but I could do a trivial change to show the unit as 'in' if the rain unit is inches. I suppose I could go a bit further and allow the snow unit to be configured separately. But is any of this any use if you can only supply whole numbers anyway?

I've done a change in the latest build (see announcements) to allow the snow unit to be specified. I don't know how much use that is, it's purely cosmetic, but it was easy enough to do so I've done it.

Steve, thank you so much for taking time for this small little request. For my particular purpose this would work. I live in snow country, we can easily receive over 100inches of snow per season(this season not withstanding) so whole numbers are adequate. I typically round off to the nearest 1/2 inch and there is not much difference between 45 and 45.5 really! Would it accept a decimal figure? Again your dedication to this software is greatly appreciated.

You won't be able to put in a decimal, the input box allows integers only. But the real problem is that log.xml file is set up with the snow depth defined as an integer, so it wouldn't store the decimal part.
