Great work, but I personally like the forecast below the table,

Looks great! I'm conflicted about before or after the table. I like the clean look of Steve's original layout, but my neighbors sometimes want to be able to get a quick look at the major items without bothering with the details then scrolling down. (Ya can't please 'em all.)

Looking good. My preference for the forecast location is below the table, but that is up to you. You can fix the New Years day text by playing with the widths.

I am very happy with the forecast page. I am still debating having the icons on the main page though. Anyway attached is the forecast.php page. This will work in the USA. You are on your own for other countries (a Canada option is here).

You will need to save it to the Cumulus/web folder and make sure to add it to the list of files in CONFIGURATION>INTERNET>FILES using...

X:\Cumulus\web\forecastT.php
YOUR SITE/forecast.php

Check the boxes for PROCESS and FTP.

You will need to do the following to make forecast.php work for your location...

RADAR MAP
  • 1. Go to http://www.wunderground.com/radar/mosaic.asp and pick your region.
    2. When the map loads, click on "Animate Map".
    3. Right-click once on the map then left-click on VIEW IMAGE. This will open the map as just a .GIF picture. Keep the link to it handy.
NOAA Zone Code
Your GPS Coordinates in Decimal Format
  • 1. Go to http://www.bing.com/maps/ and enter your city and state.
    2. When your city loads, click on the down arrow to the right of BIRD'S EYE and change it to AERIAL.
    3. Zoom in on your location.
    4. Carefully right-click on your location. A small window will pop up with your GPS coordinates in decimal format. Write these down.
NOAA Forecast Link
  • 1. Go to http://www.noaa.gov/ and enter your location in the "Weather.gov Forecast" box.
    2. At the end of the URL for your forecast, add &TextType=2 and press ENTER.
    3. Change the GPS coordinates in the URL to what you wrote down. Press ENTER again.
    4. Save this link.
You will now need to open forecast.php with Notepad and make some changes from the information you gathered above...
Now you will need to add the icons to your website...
Last off all, you will need to add the link to your forecast.php webpage at the bottom of all your Cumulus T.htm files. To do that...
  • 1. Open each T.htm file with Notepad.
    2. Scroll down to the links for each page which are within : marks.
    3. Add :<a href="forecast.php">forecast</a>: to your menu.
Optionally, if you want to have the ability to click on the Cumulus Forecast on your main page so it loads forecast.php...
  • 1. Open indexT.htm with Notepad.
    2. Find the line that starts with <p>Forecast:.
    3. Replace that entire line with the following and save the file...

    Code: Select all

    <p align="center"><a href="forecast.php"><b>Forecast:&nbsp;&nbsp;<font color="#D80000"><#forecast></b></font><br>
    <a href="forecast.php"><b>= Click For Extended Forecast =</b></a></p>

I have tried to implement http://www.komokaweather.com/weather/forecast.php but was not able to get it for our local area. For instructions:
Radar Map item 4 - I was not able to get to "VIEW IMAGE" after getting to our local radar so could not open the map as just a .GIF image. The local radar page does show a View/Save link but if select this the file name link is http://radblast-aws.wunderground.com/cg ... 1&smooth=0 which does not look like a .GIF picture.

For NOAA Zone Code and Forecast Link - was not able to find anything for Canada.

Would I be able to use this for Canada?

Paul

EDIT: was able to get the radar map showing, now to work on the forecast.

Download and upload these icons in the folder in the .ZIP to your website...

http://saratoga-weather.org/ec-icons.zip

Try the attached file I modified for Canada.

>>>OTHER CANADIAN USERS<<<

If you use the attached file, you will need to edit two things...
  • 1. Change the WUnderground map to another map. It needs to be a .GIF image if you want animation. I cannot find any good Canadian sources to accomplish this. Also you may need to change the size used and the courtesy link by editing this code near the top of the forecast.php file:

    Code: Select all

    <center>
    <img src="http://icons.wunderground.com/data/640x480/2xradara4_anim.gif" alt="Regional Radar" width="512" height="384" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: none"><br>
    <tr><td colspan="2" align="center"><small>Radar/Satellite images courtesy of <a href="http://www.weatherunderground.com">Weather Underground</a>.</small></td></tr><br><br>
    </center>
    2. Change $ECURL = 'http://weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/o ... ric_e.html'; to your local Environment Canada forecast listing.

Now that I have the Forecast and radar mastered  what would it take to add the Weather Underground 'Descriptive Forecast' as shown in the 'Extended Forecast' tab?

Looks good. You might consider doing the following to get kPa on your website instead of hPa:

I know this is an old post, but I can't find a gif that is animated on weather underground
if you go to http://weather.alaskaroofs.com/forecast.php I have a radar map, but not animated.
when I right click after animating the map on wu, it gives me a long url but no gif...
am I missing something?

Thanks
