Legacy Cumulus 1 release 1.9.4 (build 1099) - 28 November 2014
(a patch is available for 1.9.4 build 1099 that extends the date range of drop-down menus to 2030)

I recently upgraded to a Davis VP2 with the serial data logger. Everything appeared to go fine and the station is updating my website and Weather Underground data normally.
Ever since the upgrade I have been seeing multiple Cumulus icons in the quick start bar. Notice the eight icons:
If I position the mouse over any of the first 7 icons, they quickly disappear until only one shows (the normal one that will bring up Cumulus).
Running Task Manager while the multiple icons are displayed does not show multiple Cumulus processes. I don't know what else to look for.
When a process hangs and auto-restarts, the new icon will be added to the tray, but old icons aren't removed until the tray is refreshed - by hovering on it or clicking it open I have a couple of programs which do this, cumulus (so far) isn't one of them.
I'd put most of this down to being an interesting windoze feature.
It doesn't explain why Cumulus would be restarting so often for you though.

I turned on debug logging but then I find that it has been turned off when I check later. That would make sense if Cumulus is restarting like you suggest.
FYI, I am running version 1.9.2, build 1032, Windows 7 64 bit.
If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I should be able to see why it's restarting. Do you have any of the 'restart' options selected, e.g. 'restart if data stops'?

Yes on the restart options - both are checked.
Here you go - thanks!

There's no indication that the 'restart if data stopped' option is causing this (the other one has no effect on a Davis station), the logs just suddenly stop, as if Cumulus has been killed and restarted. Could you turn off the 'restart if data stopped' option, please, and see what happens?
I see that you have the version 3.00 firmware, which may be a clue. I know that Davis have done some changes recently which make older stations incompatible with newer loggers. You won't have that compatibility problem, as you will have a new station and a new logger, but it makes me wonder whether the Davis DLL I use isn't compatible with the new hardware. But we need to determine what's causing Cumulus to restart first.

OK - will do. I appreciate the effort. It's always frustrating with different mixes of hardware/firmware/software. Most frustrating is that I bought the serial interface because I thought it would be the simplest! Can't ever win!
Here's the latest Diag folder. I think I have the same problem that has been reported elsewhere - every minute or so I get an error logged:
12/30/2012 8:20:00 PM : Data input appears to have stopped - check your station and connections

This does seem to be a problem with recent stations, see the thread I've just replied to. If you could also turn on the debug log, that might give more clues.

I had left both Debug and FTP logs turned on, but they are turning themselves off (I guess whenever Cumulus restarts or resets itself.) I had also unchecked the 'restart' option. This time I've restarted Cumulus manually and turned on the logs again. I'll let it run for a few hours (or as soon as I notice errors) and send another copy of Diags.
I do usually leave Cumulus minimized rather than as a visible window on the PC desktop, if that matters.
FYI, my current station settings are in the attached jpg file. I'd appreciate knowing if I should change anything else.

You should untick 'Use 100% for 98% humidity', that's only intended for stations which never go above 98%, and the Davis does.
You should untick 'VP 1-min barometer update' as that is unnecessary on stations built in the last few years. It may even be contributing to this problem in some way.
You're using the Cumulus forecast rather than the (usually better) station forecast - is that intentional?
You really should look at the help for the settings you're using, so that you don't use any which aren't appropriate.

I purportedly use the Cumulus forecast because i tweaked the wording a while back and don't really rely on it anyhow. I did make the other changes you noted. I had read the Help file but missed/misinterpreted some of the options.
After making all the previous changes recommended and noted above, I am still getting the errors. 12/31/2012 10:09:00 AM : Data input appears to have stopped - check your station and connections
Here is a fresh copy of Diags.
