My WH1080 which i've had since 31st Jan 2012, the touchscreen has just frozen, like, i got home from school and all i heard was constant beeping. I thought there was a ghost in my room on something. But then I came to look at it, and bamm, you touch the screen and the backlight flashes on and off. I thought at first that, the battery had run out in the sensors. So me and my dad replaced them. Got back to the touchscreen, and it still was frozen. You couldn't change the time or date, yet the clock was going. And the pressure didn't change at all :bash: :x A cleaner comes every friday to clean my room, and whether they cleaned it with some spray that screwed it up, Help me please

and you can see the straight line it produces.

Have you tried resetting the console (batteries out, disconnect USB)?

Rolty, did you ever get to the bottom of this problem?
This has just happened to my unit. It started bleeping the other night. no one was using it and it was usb connected to anything. I ignored it it thinking it was one of our appliances in the kitchen. The next day I discovered that the screen whilst appearing to be on, no longer shows temperature or has the + or - buttons appear when you select a function. Like yours, the clock is running ok.

Cumulus seems to I connect to it as normal but there are error messages.

I've tried power cycling the receiver and transmitters and today I'm going to get a brand new set of batteries for both to see if this makes a difference but somehow I think it's terminal.

Hi Dublin1,

yes i did:) We took the reciever to Maplin not the other parts(wind vane e.t.c) and they said it was down to too much dust clogging up the air spaces, so they kindly replaced the base station for no price, very kindly before Christmas day 2012 :) i can't say for sure you'll get the base station free. Maplin said at the time they had a problem with their provider in China, but with kind words they replaced it. I just hope my 2nd base station won't do it again. The replacement of batteries were no use, and nor was resetting.
My nearest Maplin shop is Andover.
None of the buttons functioned, clock was running but just dashes on everything else.

I use Cumulus v1.9.4
Reboot computer at 3am every morning to relieve RAM use from Cumulus
Have an inverter so when there's a powercut, CPU stays on for 8 hours, and one by fibre modem and router to keep the internet uploads running to Wunderground and metoffice WoW.

I previously used Weather Display, i have it as a back up, but it always produces spikes that you can't remove, mainly on pressure and temperature v10.37r

Hope this has helped you Dublin1:)

Are you seeing a memory leak? I have Cumulus running 24/7 and only restart it to install new versions (or when we have extended power failures). It's currently been running for 10 days and is using 39 MB memory, according to Task Manager. It uses quite a bit more these days than it used to, but that's inevitable as I add more facilities. Memory usage will tend to increase slightly over the first few hours after startup, because things like graphs and recent data are pre-loaded from the logs, which may be at less than the 1-minute interval that is used during normal running.

no, i reboot it to relieve memory as before i left it on for weeks and it started complaining that there wasn't any memory left to save into the data log. Also on my computer explorer.exe crashes alot which sometimes prevents anything from opening as that .exe is for desktop and all the explorer windows. And i occasionally use the computer myself and from time to time it bungs up, so rebooting it every morning makes me use it quicker:)

My comp RAM is 1.256GB

Since this discussion has veered onto memory...

Anyway, I found a useful 'memory optimiser' programme that will free memory, it can be downloaded for free from a company that also offers registry and disc cleaners and other tools. You can have that running all the time, but I prefer to initiate it when I think it may be needed, such as if I want to leave the pc on unattended. I have not conducted a scientific trial to prove this solution, and I hardly dare to mention it, but I appear to have eliminated that problem.

Rolty,
Taidn't
hanks for getting back to me so promptly. I'll provide this update and let the thread go into memory issues.
I replaced the batteries for brand new one ones and it didn't make any difference.
I don't think the dust explanation is too plausible as my reciever sits on my kiychen window ledge (inside) and isn't really exposed to dust. Its possible it may have got splashed from the sink or worse still fell into the sink but is that was the case I think I would have noticed. Violent blowing through any of the vents in the casing has made no difference, I may take it to he garage and run the compressed air line over it.

My unit is only a couple of months old so I will contact Maplin. From other posts that I have read they seem to be good on returns so hopefully I'll get a replacement.

So for the record and maybe other posters, here are the symptoms of my Maplin reciever problems:

Initial sympton is the receiver starts to bleep and keeps bleeping gor around 5 mins.
Plus (+) and Minus (-) buttons do not appear when any of the other facility icons are pressed.
Wind vane icon does not display
Rainfall is not being displayed its permanantly zero
Temp, Humidity and pressure are displaying but cannot say if they are actual or accurate
Pressure history bar chart is flat lining on middle setting
Clock is riunning but without +/- it cannot be set.
Backlight works
Wireless indicator is permanently on.
The unit bleeps whenever the screen is touched.

Folks, as promised here is my update.
As I had ordered ny unit online I dropped the service desk an email and they confirmed that I could return my unit to a local store in Dublin and they would arrange a refund.

I returned my unit to the store in Dundalk and was given a replacement receiver with a free set of batteries! So well done Maplins.

The assistant in Maplins told me that the problems I had experienced is now a known problem with the receiver unit which has now been corrected. Not sure about this 'cos I haven't seen may posts about it - compared to the transmitter issues on the outside guages, but anyway I'm now back up an running.

Sadly I missed some really awful weather whilst the unit was off the air! :P
