Javasript or Ajax

Post by wheels »

I wish to create tide tables on a web page from data on a text file update to server, it needs to be collected line by line and put into separate cells on the table. The text file will only be updated once per day.
I have found a PHP script that will do it but my server does not support PHP.
Will JavaScript be capable of doing it or will I need to use Ajax?
Thanks

AJAX is JavaScript with limited file 'interrogation' capability.

How is the tide text data being generated ?
Could the same prog not generate a htm or Cumulus Template ?

If not, then yes, AJAX would be the way to call and parse the text file, and to selectively populate your table.

Thought, you say "to server", for AJAX to work it must be on YOUR server ;)

Asynchronous Javascript And XML - not really a language; just a technique.

Client side Javascript driven by data held on the server. No need for PHP on the server. Beware of (significant) differences in the way different browsers interpret the script...

See http://w3schools.com/. This is an excellent web based resource.
