Why are the sensors sticking?

The sensors for wind direction and speed on my W 1080 have stopped moving freely. I can move them manually but they keep sticking.they still transmit data but it's not accurate. Can anyone tell me how to restore them? And explain why this has happened?

Hoping someone can assist!

The answer is simple. Something is causing friction between the two moving parts.
The bearings are sticking? age? in a salty environment? exposure to dirt and debris? spiders? I could go on, but you get the idea... Pull it apart and see.
What you find will tell you how to fix them - but basically cleaning, or replacing the bearings. There are examples here on how; just do a search.

It seems the bearing are very poorly lubricated from new, they tend to seize up. If you get them quick enough then they can be freed off and a few drops of decent lubricant sees them right or a few more years. Otherwise replace them for a few quid, model/hobby shops should have them in stock.

Thank you Mark and Charlie, I will follow your suggestions. The weather station is new and worked find for first couple of weeks so it's probably teething problems.

Another possibility is that the cups or vane are pushed down too far on the bearings and are binding against the body. Just prising them up a touch so the gap is a little larger would be the fix if that is the case.

I sprayed mine with silicone spray and not had any issues due to snow. Stick occasionally. Temp wise I think everything stays working. Last winter here in upstate NY however was a fluke as we had 40-60 temps all winter practically. :)

28F and 9" snow now tho...
