N96GY Maplins Weather station
I have had my Maplins weather forecaster for a good few years now, When I was changing over to my
VP2 PRO I had to move the old mast and ended up breaking 2 of the cups on the anemometer now the
question is can I just get a straight replacment for this part, the N96GY IS £50 at the moment or there
are cheaper ones that appear to have the same sensors could I just get the cheaper one and swap the
anemometer any help please.

Re: N96GY Maplins Weather station
Has anyone managed to get spare wind direction indicators or anemometers for these stations?
I am on my second anemometer which has just failed and the wind direction sensor has failed now too.
I put it up 3 months ago!
I'm tempted to strip them down and see what's wrong with the bearings...
Maplin don't have stock of replacements or whole stations to swap out and to be honest I'm getting fed up going back to the shop EVERY MONTH!

Opened both up and oiled the bearings, which felt like they were full of grit! Now both running fine - no wind down here now though!

Re: N96GY Maplins Weather station
Hi Like has been said before Maplins do say that they do them but never in stock I no the area manager so I will call him 2moz and see if or not he can still get the parts if I have success with that I will try to find out who needs one and ask him if he could attempt to get them sent to the stores nearest to were they are wanted.
No promises if I am successful with that I would need a list of what is wanted and also what store's they need to be sent to.

Re: N96GY Maplins Weather station
Today I replaced the bearing in the anemometer of my FO WH1090.
I found a sealed bearing at Bearing Shop http://www.bearingshopuk.co.uk/mr105-2rs-20699-p.asp which I hope will be more resistant to grit and moisture than the original.
It was fairly straight forward to replace, as I think has been mentioned in other posts.
I gently levered off the 3-cup assembly with the bearing still in situ.
I managed to hook the bearing out after dunking the assembly in hottish water.
The new bearing was then pressed back in without problem.
Whilst I had the mast down I had hoped to replace the direction sensor bearing (same size) but when I removed the vane assembly the bearing remained on the shaft and was reluctant to move. As the vane was moving freely I decided not to risk damaging the unit so reassembled it - I hope I don't regret it!
Regards ....... Peter

Re: N96GY Maplins Weather station
My direction sensor seized up a couple of days ago. I pushed it with a bamboo cane this evening (in the dark) and it's very stiff. It had been going OK for over 4 years so I suppose it's had a good life. I've got a spare, which I'll fit at the weekend, so I can replace the bearing on the old one at my leisure.Bridger wrote:Whilst I had the mast down I had hoped to replace the direction sensor bearing (same size) but when I removed the vane assembly the bearing remained on the shaft and was reluctant to move. Re: N96GY Maplins Weather station
Anyone tried opening the transmitter? Last night I got "lost sensor contact", went outside, batteries fine, tried brand new Duracell but not light came on.
We have been getting some extremely fine, powdery snow here, and it had blown inside the the sensor cowling, and had bunged up the sensor slots as well.
Brought transmitter inside, thoroughly dried on dehumidifier (cool - draining downwards) and now this morning the LED stays on constantly.
Was thinking about cracking open the case, but gentle leverage isn't working - any hints or tips?

Re: N96GY Maplins Weather station
Hi if you need new sensor's Maplins should have some in at the end of this month 500 mixed units is what I was told when I called the area manager, I have ordered my anemometer cost just over a fiver with delivery just hopping it comes now as they have taken the money the area manager also said there would be another 500 mixed units in at the end of March we can live in hope, although I now have my Davis VP2 my n96gy is still much in use.
