Bearing Zero Setting

Why do all the wind graphs & displays show bearing zero when the winds are calm even though the option is deselected in Configuration / Station Settings? Is there another place I need to change this option?

Ok, I'm sitting at home with the flu & couldn't sleep. High fever also makes you do dumb things. I should look first & ask afterwards. I searched old postings and came up with the short answer of: 0 = calm winds & 360 = North.

Note that the 'bearing zero when calm' setting only affects 'instantaneous' wind direction (i.e. the value read from the station). The average bearing (i.e calculated by Cumulus over a period) will always be zero when the wind is calm, because it takes speed into account.

Could an addition be added to the graphs to show instantaneous direction like there is for speed?

It's already there; the plus symbols are the instantaneous direction, and the round symbols are the average.

I apologize. I should have been more specific. I was referring to the Select-A-Graph option under View.

Yes, that could be added to Select-A-Graph. It's not generally a very useful value (particularly with Fine Offset stations), which is why I haven't bothered putting it on there so far.

Their wind vanes tend to flap around all over the place, so an instantaneous reading could be anywhere; but if you look at the average over a period (some people use even longer than the default 10 minutes) you can usually get something useful.

If you look at your wind direction graph, do you not see crosses scattered everywhere, seemingly almost random?
