Strange rainfall readings

Post by MartinHJ »

I am running Cumulus v1.9.3 (1039) and this has happened twice now. Now I am using a FO weather station so normally put any problems down to that but to be fair its beenb behaving very well since I finally narrowed down the fault and got the relevant bits replaced (another story)

Anyhow I only tend to use the webpage to view everything and today (weather.harley-jones.co.uk) it is showing 7mm of rain at approx 3am this morning but no rainfall rate. This is the second time this has happened so I am raising this. Both times (from memory) it has been at around the same time and similar values. Is this a known bug that has been fixed in a later version (I do plan to upgrade when I have a few spare minutes). Another thought was maybe that it is related to spike removal as I do use the feature and possibly the spike removal is removing the rate but not the actual???

Anyone else come across similar issues?

Yes, that's how it works. Cumulus will ignore any rate higher than the one you set, and separate from that will try to ignore sudden large increases in the rain total. Later versions tend to be better at doing that; I'm constantly adding more code to try to handle aberrant station behaviour. I don't think there are any changes to that code since the version you are using. But if you are using the beta, it's a good idea to keep up with the latest build anyway.

Cheers Steve! At least I know I'm not going mad and also I am doing things right!

Keep up the good work!
