Link Signature Banner to Website

Post by ronwright418 »

I've noticed that many people link to their website from their signature banner. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. What's the (probably obvious) secret? ;)

I have recently reverted from a banner to a simple signature.
I found the website stats were being skewed dramatically as every time a post is viewed on the forum there is another hit on the website to run the banner script to get the current conditions.

Wow! Fast replies.

Thanks for the code Steve. I thought I had tried something like that, but must have messed it up somehow. Maybe the spaces.

Thanks for the heads up BJCKiwi. That's not a consideration for me now, but I'll be aware now.

The problem apparently was that I used '[url]http' rather than '[url=http' at the beginning.

Thanks again to all.

Hi

Call me stupid, but where do I obtain the file 'banner.php' from?? Is this something that I need to create myself, and then feed through cumlus so it can replace the tags?

My site it at: http://weather.veletron.com - there is no banner.php at this location, neither is a 'banner.php' present in the cumlus installation on my PC.

Any advice appreciated!

I have a banner, of sorts, to display, however I can get a background to display not the temperature to display properly. Suggestions? See below, that's the best I have right now. Note the funny "A" after the temperature reading, that is one issue.

Should be in other thread !

Don't know where you got that copy from, there's some forwarding url checking going on in the top line !

And for some reason it has:
eg.

Code: Select all

// Print Temp
$text = "Temperature: " . ret_value("temp") .'°' . ret_value("tempunit");
Which shouldn't have the  in it.

That  symbol is an encoding problem with the degree symbol, I've had issues with it in the past.
I think it was when I had a program saving UTF-8 encoded files as some other format, I can't remember the exact details now.

What's really strange is I see all those really great looking banners and I can't do that. What did they do differently? I also find if I go from the Default fonts to the TTF fonts, nothing displays. Do I maybe need some additional fonts? In my fonts folder there are digi.ttf and didg.eot files and that is all. In my font folder there are lcdmono2ultra-webfont.ttf, lcdmono2ultra-webfont.svg and lcdmono2ultra-webfont.eot files. Do I have the correct files? I haven't added or removed anything out of these folders and I assume they are the ones that were installed when I setup the Cumulus software originally.

READ (there is a lot of it) https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9697

Get the basics working first, then read on about tweaks and ideas, examples etc.

IF you use ttf fonts then you MUST upload them to your sever (from your PCs fonts diectory)

That sure is a lot of reading. I'll print it out so I can spend time reading it while relaxing on the patio in the sun on this really nice fall day. :D

Progress has been made. The main problem was that I needed to use the true type fonts (.ttf) instead of the default fonts. I found that once I copied over my .ttf files from my PC to the server, the weird character problem immediately went away. Now if I can just figure out how to get a decent graphical background, I will really be happy. Every background I've tried has displayed really badly. But, I'm really pleased I have gotten this far. ;)
