Windows 7 COM port

...I have now gone back into device manager and have found this, which appears to be the the serial to USB control port and this is called USBXpress which says 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' Port_#0005.Hub_#0004.

I guess all of you missed the important key word 'USBXpress'!

Unless the USBXpress drivers are completely removed (uninstalled), then nothing else can be done ... even if one tries to install the Silicon Laboratories 'CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers' while leaving the USBXpress drivers installed!

If Richard is still having the problems it is probably because the USBXpress drivers are still installed and overriding any other drivers.

A user normally/usually select the USB option during the original setup of the WeatherLink software ... because the WeatherLink USB adapter (or data logger) can be connect to the computer's USB port - the instructions with the WeatherLink software are as clear as muddy waters even if Davis Instruments has been asked/requested over and over to clarify the incompatibility of the USBXpress drivers (installed by default) with any other software, other than their own WeatherLink software...

Richrad, you have to start from the beginning - you do not need to remove/uninstall the already installed WeatherLink software - but you do need to remove/uninstall the USBXpress drivers and then install the Silicon Laboratories 'CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers'.

No, I don't think we all did.

I suggested that he remove all of the drivers and he says he's tried that.

Yes all the drivers have been un-installed quite a few times now, but when I re-install them and look in device manager at the USB ports, USBXpress always reappears even though I do not request it.

With regard to which Weatherlink I am using I still have the original CD and have been using that, which 5.9.2. Perhaps I will have a go with the latest version

Have you followed the instructions on page 15 of the WL manual to convert from USB mode to serial mode?

You must run that utility and then go thru the complete setup again using WL and seting it to serial mode.

You must restart after any change to com ports.

I have Cumulus on two win 7 machines one running running tcp\ip and one using com ports it runs just fine.

Also if you ran this http://www.softwx.com/weather/virtualvp.html you could run WL and Cumulus at the same time if you chose to do so.

I have VVP on a netbook which also has WL, Cumulus, WUHU, and VP live on it. I normally run VP LIve and WUHU continually 24/7 and Cumulus and WL as I need them. I also have Cumulus and Wl on my main computer and run them across the network if I need to make changes to the console or wish to see the data dispalyed.

The problem you are having is not with Cumulus it is with your com ports.

Cumulus is about as easy to set up as any WX program I have tried.

Unfortunately you can't connect to a USB logger using TCP/IP. The only way you could use TCP/IP would be if you were using Virtual VP, for the Cumulus to Virtual VP part of the connection. But for the other part of the connection, Virtual VP talking to the USB logger, the logger needs to be in serial mode, just as it does for Cumulus.

The advice from the WL manual may be useful for Richard, though; thanks for pointing that out.
