Forecast Numbers for Davis Vantage Vue

Post by Cliff »

Steve,

I am not using the Cumulus forecast but instead relying on the one that the Davis outputs as I understand it is more "comprehensive" (correct me if I'm wrong). I also using Jacques' Weather Blues HTML template that displays a forecast icon. The problem is that Jacques informs me that his icons rely on the Cumulus forecast and not the Davis forecast. I have searched the Wiki and throughout the forum and found several references to the webtag <#forecastnumber>. I also found a reference to a list of forecast codes that the Vantage VP uses and there appears to be 200 of them!

When Cumulus outputs the forecast string what string does it use for the Vantage Vue? And if it outputs more than the 27 that Cumulus uses, I suppose there is no way to correlate those strings with the appropriate icons. Or if so, it would probably require a LOT of work on my part. I also saw some references to modifying the strings.ini file.

I suppose the easiest "out" for this is just to use the Cumulus forecast strings and not rely on the Davis. Am I correct in this last assumption?

Thanks.

You can configure Cumulus to display either the Davis forecast text (the set of 200 or so) or the 'Zambretti' forecast text (the set of 27 or so). There are web tags to obtain both of those forecasts independently of what is displayed. There's also a web tag to give the 'index' of the Zambretti forecast. There's no corresponding web tag to give the index of the Davis forecast, as it's not available to Cumulus.

If you want to display an icon representing the forecast, then it's going to be quite hard to do that from the Davis forecasts. Realistically, you would have to do it from the Zambretti forecast number, and then decide whether to display the corresponding Zambretti forecast text on the page, or the (usually) better Davis forecast.
