Hi,
I have been using Cumulus for 7 months now with a Davis wireless VP2 working with a 6510USB datalogger. Everything works very fine in a very reliable way. I would like to use my Weatherlink software together with Cumulus, since Weatherlink can send data to the french network Infoclimat.
Actually, Cumulus setup is on Serial port n°4.
Before buying a VirtualVP licence, I would appreciate to receive any feedback from users of Virtual VP with a VP2 and a USB datalogger.
Is it reliable ? Not to difficult to install ? (Cumulus is running here on an old 11" desktop computer using Vista).
Thanks in advance for your advices.
Marcel

Re: VP2 with USB datalogger and VirtualVP
Bonjour Marcel,
I have the USB datalogger and use VirtualVP to run Cumulus, WeatherLink v5.9.3 and VPLive. My OS is XP SP3.
I've never had any problems at all since I bought the VP2 in April 2009. I appreciate you're using a different OS with Vista so it's difficult for me to say if everything would be okay with that. But certainly with XP it works fine.
I didn't have any major problems installing VirtualVP. You have to install the N8VBvCom driver so multiple virtual COM ports become available but that wasn't a problem. The one thing that did confuse me was trying to get the COM port I had assigned for the datalogger to be recognised by my system. It requires a reboot after assignment so make sure you do that.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Marcel.
Did you know you can try VirtualVP free for 30 days? I'm sure that option is still available so you can make sure everything works okay before you have to buy a licence.

Re: VP2 with USB datalogger and VirtualVP
I am using Win 7 Home Premium on my weather/solar data logger laptop and for quite a while used VirtualVP to run Cumulus and Weatherlink simultaneously, but I stopped running Weatherlink quite a while ago, as VVP often froze up (so Cumulus and Weatherlink stopped receiving data) some time in the middle of the night. I'd have to stuff around to recover the data in Cumulus in the mornings. If I was away, the data was lost
The VVP version available at the time I started running Cu and Wxlink was hopeless, but Ray (gemini06720) got me an older version that worked for a while, before the probems mentioned above became too much of a hassle to deal with.

Re: VP2 with USB datalogger and VirtualVP
There is a help file on the VPP link in my first reply for W7 64-bit systems. I wonder if that would help you Gordon.

Ignore that. I see you're running the 32-bit version of W7.

Re: VP2 with USB datalogger and VirtualVP
Note that there were (still are?) some incompatibilities between VVP and the Davis DLL which Cumulus uses; I can't remember the exact details, but I think they were related to downloading logger data. The author of VVP was unable to fix the problems; I understand he tried to get help from Davis which wasn't forthcoming.

Re: VP2 with USB datalogger and VirtualVP
Many thanks to All,
I will try the free version of VirtualVP ASAP.
After saving my good working configuration, of course.... since I am not too confident.
