That number has two decimal points in it. Numbers can't have two decimal points.

Then you'll just have to put in as many decimal places as it will accept. The example in the manual shows 1 dp, so presumably that's as many as it will accept.

Thanks steve just done that and it has gone a lot closer to were it should be for today and that
is Sunrise 07.29 and Sunset 16.29 the sunset is a couple of min out should that make to much
difference. The manual is very good very well written this is the only place I have come a little stuck, I am not putting the station out on the net at the moment I am trying to get use to it first
so I am not asking for help all the time.

Thanks Steve for your time and sorry again for the misunderstanding.

As far as I can see I have been doing my best to help and have answered his questions. Can you not see my answers in this thread? Has the problem not been resolved? I spend an awful lot of time doing support for software that I give away for free. If I ever appear to ignore anyone, then that is an oversight. I don't reply to every post, only those which have a question which I clearly need to answer.

Also, there are other people on this forum, you know? That's why the forum exists, so it isn't left to me to answer every single question, particularly at the moment as I am indeed unwell.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother. It seems that several times a week I have to deal with someone with an attitude, and I'm getting fed up with it.

Geoff,

I've just looked at the VP2 manual and latitude and longitude can only be entered to one decimal place. It isn't designed to locate your precise location - just an approximation so sunrise and sunset times are reasonably close.

If the sunrise and sunset times are out by a couple of minutes that really shouldn't be a problem should it?

Shirl, I can't see anything from Steve that could possibly cause offence. Geoff has received a lot of help from this forum so I'm not sure why he feels hard done to. The Davis manual is probably the best written manual out there so I'd be surprised if Geoff has any more problems.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Ray the main problem is he will see good in everyone that is how he ended up loosing his arm and being put in a wheelchair and if he makes a mistake he will say sorry but he will expect a response he never ment to upset anyone but he is really struggling at the moment and just wants things to work for him for the little time he has left.

Shirl (Thanks Ray I no he looks up to you as you have been a great help to him but I don't think
he will be using this forum again)

Hi Shirl,

I don't honestly think Geoff has upset anyone. Steve, despite not being well himself, continues to support Cumulus as best as he can. He answered Geoff's question and I can't understand why Geoff thinks Steve was rude to him. He wasn't, honest.

If Geoff is a moderator in another forum then he must have developed a fairly thick skin so I don't understand why he would not want to post here again purely on the basis of the comments in this thread. It's akin to cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Many here do use the Davis weather stations and are willing to help where they can. But that question over latitude and longitude could have been solved by reading the manual. I hope Geoff will update us when he's got the VP2 up and running. He is interested in the weather and this is a great place to share the hobby.

What has happened to him is very sad but he should continue to visit this place and share his enjoyment of the hobby.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

He may do after he talks to his doc again but he has developed away of reading into the way people talk to him and is this case the way that people wright he knows when people are being short with him the other thing now is his computer crashed at the time he was setting up the new station and he has no knowledge of how to get it back on the internet he did try with the usb/serial problem but it would only work if he clicked on usb.

Thanks again Ray Shirl

Hi Shirl,

None of us can change the way Geoff interpretes written messages. If he reads through this thread when he's in a better frame of mind he may realise no-one was short with him.

If he decides he cannot get the VP2 running then by all means ask him to post as much information about the problem as he can and we'll do what we can to help.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Steve,

Please don't feel disheartened by a couple of members that are unhappy or have an attitude. They are definitely in the minority. The other 99+% of the members, including myself, really appreciate what you have done and continue to do. You have a top-notch product that is free and you provide excellent professional support. What more could anyone want? I know sometimes you probably feel like this :bash: but I and almost every member say  for a job WELL done. Keep up the great work and remember, "You can't please all the people all the time".

Kindest regards,

Thanks, Cliff. I've also had several private messages of support. I hope people don't think I was fishing for compliments; I just react badly to being attacked when I'm just trying to be helpful in the most efficient way I can.

If Geoff wants to post again on the forum then I'll continue to help him where I can, as best I can, and I'm sure others will too. But any help I give will be given in the same way as always; succinctly and efficiently. If someone wants to take that as being rude or impolite, that's up to them.
