Cumulus deletes index file in FTP error

Please help

Within the last couple days my website has been down and I just thought it was a issue on their end with the storm....well turns out that on my web updates I was getting a FTP error. During that error it was removing the index file from the root directory on the FTP file manager.

Well now I also have a second problem. I thought that if I updated to the newest version of Cumulus it would fix the issue. Well now I cant even open the program. When I try it opens and seems to be running in task manager but does not actually open up.

Cumulus only deletes files on the web server if you have 'delete before upload' set. Any other deleting must be being done by the ftp server, presumably related to the ftp error.

It's difficult to diagnose a problem like that. The first thing to try is to reboot the PC. If that doesn't help, try installing Cumulus again, making sure that no Cumulus process is still running in Task Manager.

If that doesn't help... do you have it set to start minimised?

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look.

When you say "newest version", do you mean 1.9.3? What version were you using previously?

thanks for the quick reply. I spoke with the domain host company ( go daddy) and they assured me it was at my end. I just dont know how a setting could just change because it was working then problem started just like that.

I did re boot for sure and I am worried about a uninstall and re install because of data and the setting to upload, I remember have a hard time getting it going the first time as I am not good at that and not sure I can figure it out again

I'm not sure what there is to figure out. You don't lose any settings by reinstalling. You don't even need to uninstall. But reinstalling is actually unlikely to fix it anyway, to be honest.

I have tried a re install and the launch issue remains so I can not test the FTP problem

1.9.2 is the version I updated to when the launch issue started. I can try and file that file to send

OK that file was empty so there was nothing to send. I uninstalled the old program and re installed and it now opens. However as suspected I have all the web settings to try to figure out again. Any quick guide to doing this?

I suspect that this is related to your problem. I suspect that you had it installed under Program Files, despite advice to the contrary. See http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#I_can. ... a_files.21

Presumably you now have it installed in C:\Cumulus?

Cumulus does not lose its settings when you install a new version if you install to the same place as the previous version.

If you look in the location described in the FAQ you will find your data files.

The cumulus.ini file containing your settings may be in the same location, or it may be in the Cumulus folder in Program Files. I can't remember what Windows does with it when Cumulus is installed under Program Files.

If you find your data folder and your cumulus.ini file from their previous locations and copy them to your new installation (while Cumulus is stopped), you will have all of your data and settings back.

well issue was I was stupid enough to uninstall...and there was no remaining .ini or data file. Its ok I did a restore and I can now open the older version again PHEW But now I still have the upload issue. Couple this I can post now that will help I hope.

I understand that you are running Cumulus on your heatofthemoment.ca hosting plan, and each time it uploads information your index.html file gets deleted. You advised that the software support team says this is not being cause by Cumulus itself because the program is not capable of this. However, I have reviewed this with our Advanced Hosting Support, and they have advised that if the Cumulus program is able to FTP and write to your hosting plan, then it is definitely possible for the program to delete it. It is likely that what is happening is that the program doesn't edit the file with new information, but instead is supposed to delete the file and upload a new file with the new information. However, as you are on a Legacy hosting plan and you are getting an FTP error, it is likely that the program deletes the file, and before the updated file can be uploaded, your FTP connection stops. In an attempt to resolve this issue, please upgrade your hosting plan to a Web Hosting plan where the FTP connection should not disconnect. This can be done at no cost to you.

Please turn on ftp logging and attach the ftplog.txt file after an upload has been attempted. If you are back in the situation where Cumulus is under Program Files, then it is likely that the ftplog.txt file will be in the location described in the FAQ.

I did that and FAQ says lof file should be cumulus root but it is not. Infact I searched in on my PC and was not found???

Did you search here http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#I_can. ... a_files.21 as Steve suggested? Note that this is a 'hidden' folder so you will need to set search to show hidden files.

OK I think I got it.

I finally found the instruction to where the .ini and data files are in Win 7 So i fully uninstalled all cumulus programs and installed 1.9.2 from scratch. I moved those 2 files over now that I knew where they were and presto just like it should

And I would suggest you upgrade to the 1.9.3 beta version, which is very stable, and pretty simple to do when you have your install in c:\cumulus
