Wind weirdness

Over the last couple days we've been catching the tail end of Sandy, and watching wind speed closely for the first time in... well, ever. A friend pointed out that average speed is very often higher than gust speed. Confused, I poked back in time and noticed this is true historically as well, most often with higher speeds.

I have "calculate 10 minure wind average" checked. "Use speed for avg calculation" is not checked. From the FAQ, this should mean that "latest" is the most recent gust reading from the weather station, "gust" is the highest value seen in the last 10 minutes, and "Average" is a rolling 10 minute average calculation. (all based on the reported gust value)

Of course, now that I have time to investigate, the wind has died completely, but I'm still at a loss to explain why Average would be higher than Gust. I'm running 1.9.2 build 1032.

Any thoughts?

Where are you seeing this - watching the display live, or on graphs?

Graphs for sure. Since I noticed, I check live data but as I mentioned, we are pretty much in dead calm right now.

Do you have 'plot latest gust' selected? Do you have a PeakGustMinutes or AvgSpeedMinutes setting in cumulus.ini?

It almost looks like it could be displaying one of them in the wrong units.

Another thought: are you using any calibration settings?

'Plot latest gust' is not selected. I can not find any PeakGustMinutes or AvgSpeedMinutes setting in cumulus.ini

I do mix up units in the program, for instance displaying cloud base in feet, but in general I use SI units.

 Looks like I left a tweak in the multipliers section when I was experimenting a couple weeks ago, where wind speed has a different factor than wind gust by almost double. Sorry - my bad. Thanks for poking, Steve.
