Noobie and stuck on realtime txt? Can someone help?

Post by Mustbemad »

Hi all, finally got culumus working via xampp on my internal network to see what I can (CAN'T) do!

All was straight forward BUT I can't get my head around the realtime gauges. Basically everything updates every 10 min, as it should but the wind gauges don't update t all.

Read though the other thread but can't make sense of it....culumus refreshes the realtime.txt every 50sec but won't FTP over to the web directory.

I ran realtime and FTP logs but to be honest I don't have a clue what am looking at! In that I mean that it all looks to transfer ok but not the realtime.txt.

I'm using FileZilla as my FTP to a laptop with xampp so I don't think it's a server issue, but what do I know!

Can anyone point me in a simple direction????

Thanks in advance!

If the problem is that your realtime.txt isn't getting uploaded to your web site, and your 'normal' uploads are working OK, the most likely reason for this is that you haven't configured the ftp directory correctly in Cumulus. And the most likely fix in this case is that you need to leave the ftp directory blank.

If that doesn't help, can you give a link to your site, please? And attach the realtimeftplog.txt and ftplog.txt.

Hi Steve thanks for the VERY quick reply :D

The site is not open to the world as its for internal purposes only.... For now

When you sat FTP not setup correctly in culumus are you referring to Internet/file setting tab or on FileZilla?

On culumus I have realtime checked and auto update, also try to use the FTP in culumus to force realtime txt into the directory but in wont have it.

I'll try and pm you both logs for you to look at.

Many thanks again!

I mean the ftp directory in Cumulus. The box in the 'web site' section labelled "Directory".

It's in the display settings. Changing it to such a large period will use a lot of memory and is liable to slow Cumulus and your PC down, and probably won't produce a very useful graph anyway. It's only intended for recent data. You can use Select-A-Graph for 'one off' graphs of data over longer periods.

Hi Steve

The original purpose of the weather system was to collect wind speed and direction to see if its viable to install a wind turbine where I live. I need at least 3 months of data for it to work or not!

I need to see if I can some how export the collected wind speed to excel if possible but ideally just want to view a graph on my ipad.

Speaking of ipad, what is the best way to get live gauges to work without flash???

I don't really understand why a graph is better than the actual figures, e.g. daily wind run? The graphs are plotted once a minute; at 3 months that's about 130,000 points on a small graph! But in any case, you can use Select-A-Graph to view a graph for any period you want, at the interval of the Cumulus data logs. Set the logging interval to one minute, and that's the same as the 'real time' graphs.

Mark Crossley's Steel Series gauges should work on an iPad, I think.

Just tried that and got in a jam so I posted a request for help over there under installation instructions.

Maybe you can help me out on that.

Many thanks
