Version 1 or 2 beta

Post by PaulMy »

I wish to try the SS gauges and what version should I start with? I am ready for some head scratching - but not too much :oops:

Well Beta 2 is very stable, so I would say Beta 2.

Be sure to install the V1 and then the V2, the V2 does not include all the files needed. Guess how I know that ? :oops: :oops: :D

/css
ddimgtooltip.css
gauges-alt.css

/font folder

/scripts
steelseries.min.js
steelseries.js
ddimgtooltip.min.js
ddimgtooltip.js
jquery-170.min.js
tween.min.js

/scripts /css folder

In V1 but not in V2

I don't know which are important, but installing V2 just gave a gauges page without the gauges grapics. I just installed the V1 on top of it and worked.

Please note that I am embarrased at not posting to thank you for your efforts. :oops:

Hmm, OK...

css/ddimgtooltip.css: is no longer needed, it is incorporated into gauges-ss.css
css/gauges-atl.css: is no longer needed, ver 2 does not support the 'alternative layout'.

font/: is no longer needed, the 'digital' font is now embedded in the css file.

scripts/ : This folder is still subject to change, for beta4a...
steelseries.js: is no longer needed, it is incorporated into libraries.min.js
steelseries.js: was never required, it is the unminimisied source file, no moved to the scripts/src folder
ddimgtooltip.min.js: no longer required, now part of libraries.min.js
jquery-170.min.js: no longer required, now part of libraries.min.js
tween.min.js: no longer required, now part of libraries.min.js

Question: Have you keep the html file up to date with the beta version?

I run the page directly on my laptop using my code source folder as the web site source to check everything works, then zip up the code folder for each release.

Just be aware that I do tend to change things around a bit in the beta releases :roll: , so either stick with the current beta until the final version 2, or be prepared to upgrade periodically.

Have downloaded 'gauges-ss-v2-0beta4a.zip', printed and read the ReadMe.txt, unzipped;
Copied the T files to \cumulus\web;
Configured Internet Settings Files and Cumulus is uploading the gauges-ss.htm and realtimegauges.txt to 'www.komokaweather.com/weather';
Have not edited the gauges.js;
Have manually ftp the css and scripts folders and files to 'www.komokaweather.com/weather' (with the files in these folders intact - not separated to 'www.komokaweather.com/weather);
Then tried http://www.komokaweather.com/weather/gauges-ss.htm but no gauges appear :bash:

Have read several SS posts but not found the clue to see what I have missed. Help :oops:

Thanks for quick response, but no success. I am with Godaddy and is there something else that I need on my system or my host?

Paul, I just checked, this time from western Canada and the SteelSeries gauges, version 2.0.0beta4a, are displaying correctly here at 'mylemans komoka weather' - the Cumulus-produced 'realtimegauges.txt' data file indicated an update time of '13:40' which is also correct.

Mark, IE9 and I do recall way back on SS discussion about browers and that was one of the reasons I didn't pursue sooner but now haven't been able to find such post.

I will try another browser,
