Re: davis weather stations
I am assuming wireless, and if I was to do it again:
1. most flexible for mounting anenometer and ISS, various additional sensor options available to suit most any user's need -
Vantage Pro 2 Plus model 6163 if budget permits (w/ UV, Solar and 24-hour fan aspirated radiation shield)
or Pro 2 Plus model 6162 with UV and solar;
or Pro model 6153 (w/ 24-hour fan aspirated radiation shield)
or Pro basic model 6152 which I have
2. Vantage Vue for same reliability as Vantage Pro and some cost saving

Re: davis weather stations
John Dann (Prodata Weather Systems) also has some good advice for potential purchasers on his web site: http://weatherstations.co.uk/
Note that there is no such thing as a "Vue 2"; as Paul has said, the two stations are the Vantage Vue and the Vantage Pro 2.

Re: davis weather stations
Hi Geoff,
I'm guessing you've just won the lottery!
Although much more expensive than Oregon Scientific and Fine Offset stations the Davis range are worth the cost. I bought mine from John at ProData and he was very helpful in helping me choose what was best for me.
I would recommend the 6332 Wireless Anemometer Transmitter if you're thinking of the VP2. It allows you to separate the anemometer from the ISS. Temperatures should be measured 4ft above ground but wind measurement should be 33ft up. That's why they should be separated. The 6332 is expensive for what it is but John may give you a deal.
It's a moot point as to whether the solar/UV sensors are worthwhile given the very high cost and the need for them to be connected to the ISS. You can't easily connect them to the 6332 transmitter.
I added a Daytime fan 12 months after my VP2. That's probably as far as you need to go in the UK. I don't think a 24 hour fan would help accuracy. It's more designed for deserts!
You will need WeatherLink and the data logger of course if you want to connect to a computer although belfryboy is making an alternative at a cheaper price. This will probably invalidate your warranty though.

But note that you can achieve the required separation with the standard kit anyway, if your site allows.RayProudfoot wrote:I would recommend the 6332 Wireless Anemometer Transmitter if you're thinking of the VP2. Re: davis weather stations
Geoff,
I have a friend in Flixton, Gt Manchester who has a relative in the US. She bought the daytime fan for less than half the UK price. The official UK price is £162. Eye watering!

Re: davis weather stations
Yes it is Geoff. The ProData price includes a datalogger and WeatherLink software. You cannot buy the logger without the software even if you don't intend using it.
http://www.weathershop.co.uk has the same bundle for £687.30 but personally I'd go with ProData. John is very knowledgeable and helpful.
If you can mount the anemometer high up on the same mounting pole as the ISS then you won't need the anemometer transmitter which is expensive. But if you do want it John may do you a special deal. LATER: I see he's offering a 10% discount on accessories ordered at the same time as a station.
Some accessories can be purchased from the US but anything that has a transmitter has to be purchased in the UK due to different frequencies used.

Re: davis weather stations
Hope everything goes okay for you Geoff. You might ask Steve any implications in Cumulus of changing your station type.

Re: davis weather stations
I switch back and forth between two different station types all the time when testing Cumulus. The only thing that sometimes needs correcting is today's rain (because the rain counters in the two stations will be different).
