Gauges page not displaying data with IE8

Post by Jerry »

I just installed IE8 and no data is being displayed on the gauges page of web sites.

Using firefox all is ok.

The realtime wind data works ok with IE8.

Thanks,

Jerry

wa4zwc.net/weather

but it's not just mine. I've checked other websites and theirs are not displaying either. The gauges are there, but no data in them.

Works okay in compatibility mode.

You will need to add a tag to the page so that IE8 sees that it needs Compatitilbity mode until the related JavaScript is updated to work with the new IE8 system.

the tag

Code: Select all

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
does that.

Kinda of gross, but the option is to wait for changes to the JavaScript.

Thanks Kevin, but I am not sure about how to add the tag and would not everyone using Cumulis have to add it so anyone using IE8 can see the data. :?:

I sorta figured that Steve could insert someting in his next beta update. :|

Thanks again for your input!

to use compatibility mode, either click it under tools or click the compatibility icon on the address bar.

here is an interesting wrinkle: with ie8, release candidate 1, my gauges page looked fine in compatability mode. however with ie8 final, my gauges page graphics are screwed up in compatability mode. wonder what's up?

hmmm...Kevin's meta tag added to my template page fixed it! thanks, Kevin. Steve, I suggest adding the K-man fix to the "packaged" download sets until the java update arrives. cheers, lex

... And why does a meta tag 'force' compatibility when the tool-bar option doesn't

Indeed. I would have said that until we can get to the bottom of the problem, the solution is for IE8 users to click the compatibility button, but if that doesn't work in this case...

Edit: Actually, beteljuice, you're a javascript expert - can't you work out what the problem is? And you're not allowed to say "IE8" :)

I've emailed the gauges author to see if he has any ideas.

NOT  , My language of 'choice' is php, at which I would describe my self as an 'Artful Bodger' - on a good day.

I re-aquainted myself with JavaScript and DHTML solely to exploit AJAX content update, and I've almost got that working

I reported this gauge problem long ago. I originally assumed it was some problem on the site I was using - I was using IE8's core at the time, with SlimBrowser sat on top of it.

Having spent many hours with the IE8 debugger, I have finally found where the problem lies, and I could have saved myself a lot of time if I'd just thought to look at Walter Zorn's web site (the jsGraphit gauges - whose web site I did check - use WZ's vector graphics library). The problem is in the wz_jsgraphics.js file. I attach a zipped copy of the fixed version to save you going to Walter's web site.

Just unzip it and upload it to your web site to replace the existing one.
