If you're entering depths in inches, then the units of the Snow Index are, if you like, "inch days". It's the total amount for the winter so far in terms of snow on the ground each day. It's not obvious to me what figure exactly you are looking for?

Hi Steve:
When I opened the snow index for 2011 it had the number "3861" that was the number so i wasn't sure if that was inches or not. Thank you for such a quick reply.
have a great day

Yes, Cumulus doesn't know or care what units you use for snow depth, because it doesn't do anything with the figures other than add them all up for the EWSI. So whatever units you put in, those are the units you get out.
