WeatherBug Publishing Issues

Post by mallardnathan »

I've been receiving multiple emails over the past couple months with Cumulus users having issues publishing to us. Even with all the information punched into Cumulus correctly (from what I can tell on screenshots people have been sending me), our servers still show "Data Failure" and data fails to reach us.

I'm not sure of the versions/OS configurations people are using since they haven't told me that part.

I've been telling users to post here for issues.

Does anyone know what might be causing these issues, and is there any info I need to be aware about to inform users to better troubleshoot this? Anyone else having these issues? I'm wanting to better support our customers using Cumulus that are having these issues, so any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm afraid I don't know what "Data Failure" means, it's not an error message generated by Cumulus. The Weatherbug code in Cumulus is the same as the code for Weather Underground, PWS Weather and the Met Office WOW system, and this is the first time I've ever heard of this error. So presumably, your servers are generating this error, and if so, presumably the servers have a specific reason for generating the error, and therefore you should be able to tell me what the problem is, rather than vice versa?

You could turn on the debug log in Cumulus, which would show any errors while doing the update, but these would usually just be errors returned by the server, and you would already have access to those.

Hi Nathan,

I have been successfully transmitting data to Weatherbug for a few months now and am not aware of any data transmission issues. I have Cumulus installed on a PC running windows XP3.

Like Kerry, have been sending to WB for several months without any errors that I am aware off. Using v. 1.9.3 b.1033

Also no problems sending to WU, CWOP, PWS, and to AWEKAS except when they appeared to have some problems on their end a short while back.

Sounds good Steve. All I usually see on our end is just "success" or "failure", and an error code is only generated if there's something really off (like a temp reading or something). I'll definitely start telling users to turn on their Cumulus logs and show me what they look like and see if that helps. Then if I see something strange we can't fix, I'll let you know.

Glad to hear some are having success with this. If I get any more of these issues, I'll definitely start looking at their logs and see if I can pinpoint something specific.

Thanks for the info!
