Getting there with Windows 7, weather underground and N96FY

HI all
Almost there but a slight problem has been noted, it appears that my station goes off line after about 6 days, straight lines on the weather underground display. On the associated PC the Cumulus flashes error and the log shows loss of base station data; well near enough, next time I will copy the message. I have yet to scroll back to the start of the log to check if the fault message is all the same. The base station appears to be functioning as it is displaying activity on its screen and all cables are secure. Sadly it has not gone off line when I am there, as I discover the problem when remotely viewing the data over the net.
The only way to get things back up and running is to follow the following steps. Close/Exit Cumulus, close down the PC, un plug the base station and reset the station by taking out a battery. Restore to service in the following manner, restart the PC and open Cumulus, re-sync the base station to correct date and PC time, re connect the USB to the base station and sit back, for several seconds till data is seen and sent, with the Green light flashing on the Cumulus page. If the steps are not carried out in this manner data is not connected and no green flashing lamp.
Something with my initial setup not right?

No, probably the same 'USB hang' problem that some people have with Fine Offset stations, including those who use other software.

By the way, lack of a flashing green light is not an indication of a problem:

What is USB Hang up?. N96FY station bought late spring 2012, using latest cumulus on windows 7, put on line to underground weather summer 2012, fault seems to be about once a week. Have also placed details on other thread trying to build up a profile of event.

It's the problem that you're seeing. The station stops responding via the USB, but in all other respects carries on working normally. It has to be reset (remove USB cable and batteries) to get it responding to the PC again.

Is there any fix? Is a problem with base station software? I have noticed my microwave is very near the base station could it be that?

Well I thought I was!!!! Just a couple of points,
1. Whilst looking round Cumulus pages I clicked the 'problem section' although I am running Windows 7, Cumulus informed me that my PC was running XP service pack 2. Is this normal?
2. I download to Underground Weather, over the last week, for some strange reason, the reports stop at 05.00am and reconnect at around 11.00am give or take 20mins??? The evidence of this mystery can be seen from the underground station graph.
3. I e.mailed Maplin reporting the problem about USB lock up and full reset to clear, they have e-mailed the manufacture and are still waiting a reply; I am not holding my breath.
4. Considering that I may not get a resolution with the N96FY I am considering an upgrade to a Davis Vantage Vue with PC USB logger to feed into my PC. Considering the large cash outlay does this Davis have any problems working with a Cumulus/Windows 7 set up. I am just wondering if I have the Windows 7 settings - accessed via the PC control panel - on my PC set incorrectly?

Sorry, but none of that means anything to me. Where exactly are you seeing this?

There don't seem to be any problems at WU, and mine has been uploading OK. Do you run Cumulus all the time or stop it overnight? What's your WU station ID? What upload interval are you using? Are you using "rapid fire"?
does this Davis have any problems working with a Cumulus/Windows 7 set up
As far as I am aware it works OK. If you look through the Davis section of the forum, you'll see any problems that people might have had or be having.
