Inside Temperature & Humidity Displays Security Issue

Hi Steve, I maybe being a little paranoid but I am not totally happy displaying Interior Temperature or Humidity for all to see. I feel that firstly it is not really relevant to visitors but more importantly could be a potential security issue as it may indirectly indicate if say the house was empty due to holidays etc. (Did you hear of google earth being used for lead theft!).
The question then, is what is the simplest method of removing this data from the Cumulus website upload software please?

i'd say the simple answer to this is
if you are worried about people breaking in to your place - just don't use your actual co-ordinants

use those a couple of doors up from you and on the other side of the street

Simplest method: don't use the supplied templates. This is actually the only completely 'safe' method, without using additional software.

If you edit the gaugesT.htm file, you can remove the indoor gauges from the page (don't forget to edit the javascript variables, as anyone would be able to view the source and see the values), and if you edit the graphsT.htm file, you can remove the inside temperature and humidity graphs (you will lose outside humidity), but the relevant images will still get uploaded, even though not displayed on a page. To stop that you will have to untick 'upload standard images', and then your pages will have no images. There aren't enough slots in the files list to list all of the images except those two. I admit that this last point is a deficiency, as it limits the web site you can build if not using the standard one. A way around this would be to get Cumulus to generate the files locally, and then use something else to upload them.

Don't forget that any edits you do to the standard files will get overwritten if/when you install a new version of Cumulus, if you leave them in the 'web' folder.

On the contrary it could be seen as a safety feature and could qualify you for a discount on your home insurance!

I mean if you log on remotely and find out the inside temperature is excessivley high your house might be on fire and you should call the fire brigade!

And yes I think maybe you are being a little paranoid...

If security is a concern...

I would think that publishing your address in the whois info for your domain would be a bit more of a security issue than whether or not you are showing an inside temp.

OR...

Providing your coordinates on your weather site and having your site listed on the Cumulus User Map.

Arguably publishing your name and address in the 'phone book falls into the same category as your suggestions!!
However none of them advertise in real time the probability of someone actually being in residence, do they?
