Catch up feature

Post by saltajose »

Hi there! In my first post I want to thank you for such a nice piece of software. I'm quite satisfied with it! But, I have a small request to make :)

I have read through many posts that the catch up function only works when Cumulus is open after a period of being closed. This is useful when you shut down your PC regularly. Every time you restart Cumulus, your data is in a way synced to your preferred weather data collection site (wunderground, pws, weatherbug).

In my case, I use Cumulus to post weather data online. Therefore, my PC is on 24/7. Besides using the webpage generation to get the data online, I also upload data to wunderground and PWS. Moreover I reside on a rural area where UMTS signal is the only way to get online. I must say that internet connection is not that reliable, it sometimes goes down and comes up at any time. Also, by some weather situations (strong winds, heavy rain) there is no electricity (and thus no Cumulus and no internet).

The function "catch up" does not work in my case: Cumulus is up 24/7 but only posting while internet is up. Therefore, I cannot post online weather and the data at wunderground is incomplete.

Would it be possible to modify the implementation of "catch up" function to send the data that for any reason could not be uploaded?

When I want to look at the weather records at wunderground or PWS I usually get lack of data on interesting weather events (where a strong wind produced a power outage for example). Of course, I could update the data manually, but my internet goes down for long periods some times (8-9 hours) and almost daily: synchronizing data to PWS or wunderground every 15 minutes is a lot of work!

Thanks!

There's an existing enhancement request for this, and it's something that I will probably look at when I get time.
